Akon: The chief strategist for Brock Pierce's 2020 presidential campaign
Two-time Grammy Award nominated artist and crypto entrepreneur Akon, whose full name is Aliaume Damala Badara Akon Thiam, has joined the 2020 presidential campaign of independent candidate Brock Pierce. Pierce, an early bitcoin user who founded Blockchain Capital and co-founded Tether, tweeted on Monday:
We are delighted that Akon is joining our campaign as chief strategist.
"Akon is not only one of the most famous artists in the world, he's also a successful global businessman and philanthropist," said Pierce, who announced his candidacy in July, in a statement quoted by Cheddar. “I started my life as an artist, so I have the greatest respect for culture and art - without them we are lost. His pursuit of being in politics, being in the public service and what he has accomplished in Africa and beyond will be valuable to our platform at regional, national and global levels. "
"I've always known Brock Pierce as a stand-up guy," Akon told the publication. "He's a real person and doesn't work between party lines. We share the same dream of moving America forward for all without giving preference to any particular base."
Pierce was also an inspiration for Akon to create his own cryptocurrency called akoin. This cryptocurrency is used in Akon City, the futuristic city Akon is building in his homeland of Senegal, Africa. Akon City's first phase is expected to be completed by 2023, and the entire city is expected to be completed in 2029. The first phase will include a 5,000 bed hospital, houses, hotels, schools, police and fire stations, airstrip and shopping mall, waste disposal facility, solar power plant and all the other hallmarks of modern cities. Additionally, Hollywood film producer and co-founder of Karoin, Jon Karas, found out about Bitcoin, according to Pierce's Mickey publication.
Brock Pierce is currently running in eight states and Washington, DC, more than any other independent candidate in 2020, including Kanye West, Cheddar. West announced his candidacy for the 2020 U.S. presidential race around the same time Pierce did. Pierce has also requested to join the vote in several other states. Entrepreneur Karla Ballard will be its vice president, while data lawyer and whistleblower Brittany Kaiser Pierce will be campaign manager. Kaiser was a major whistleblower in the Facebook and Cambridge Analytica scandal, exposing data abuse in elections around the world.
On Monday, the New York Independence Party announced its approval of Pierce as the next US president. The party says it has more than 500,000 members nationwide. "I am honored to be nominated for the United States presidential nomination by the Independence Party of New York," Pierce tweeted in response.
