Tips to Build Children's Confidence to Take Lessons
"How do you get children to take this lesson? Children must be active. While still small, his talent must be honed by taking this course. Must fill spare time with useful activities, one of which is tutoring. Children can also socialize through tutoring. But why does my son seem unwilling and not interested at all, huh?”
Have you ever, as a parent, had thoughts like that? If the child refuses to take the lesson or does not want to take the lesson at all, it may not be because the child really doesn't want to or doesn't like the activity. But it could be that children are more worried about what kind of lesson will be, there are not many friends there, what will they do there, and other worries.
So, as a parent, you can't be too pushy. Especially if the type of child is difficult to persuade. Well, the more they are forced, the more children refuse. So, what should I do? These are tips that parents can follow so that their children are confident and willing to try something new, one of which is taking lessons.
1. Validate the child's feelings
Validate the child's feelings without being pushy. "Oh, so you don't want to take swimming lessons. In fact, if you see that you are good at swimming, you know." That's it, it doesn't have to be long.
2. Invite children to find out about the lesson
Invite children to do research by checking about the lessons they want to take, either via the internet or directly coming to the tutoring center and seeing other children who are taking lessons. It can also be done by chatting with the children who are also tutoring at the place, so that the child knows what his experience was like, so at least the child has an idea what it will be like there.
3. Do a trial
After doing some research, it's time to visit the tutoring center and meet the teacher. If the child feels comfortable and safe, it means that he can do a trial or try to enter his class. So, it's not that easy to get directly into the lesson. Because actually this is also a new thing for children, now the child himself must feel comfortable and safe first so that he feels happy while living it.
4. It's okay to be afraid
Explain to your child that it's okay to be worried or afraid of something that hasn't been done before. But, also give understanding that we are also given the brain to be able to sort out which ones need to be feared and which ones not. Talk about this in a language that can be understood by the child according to his thinking ability.
5. Nothing is impossible
Invite the child to remember the things he was afraid of before but he managed to conquer in the end. This is to increase his confidence that nothing is impossible as long as the child is willing to try.
Hopefully it can be useful and can be applied so that children become more confident.
