Democracy generally refers to a system of government in which power is vested in all the people of the state, rather than in the hands of a handful of people, and the people form their government. Democracy is a political system where fair elections are held to change the government at the end of the term, where adults have universal suffrage. In this system there is participation of multiple political parties and people in political activities. The people are the foundation of democracy. The characteristic of a democratic society is the system of governing through the elected representatives of the people and the system of preserving their freedom and enhancing their welfare through the participation of the people in the activities of the state. The system of government in Bangladesh is a democratic system. Elections for the National Assembly are held here. For this the government has formed an election commission. There are provisions for electoral conduct and penalties for violating electoral conduct. Democracy originated not only in modern times, but also in ancient times, but in a limited sense. One of the ways to succeed in democracy is to ensure individual freedom and human rights. So democracy is the most admired system of governance.
