How Much Work Does It Take To Become Successful?

Here we are only going to discuss work output verses the amount of results or achievement from said work. What does not matter for our purpose here is how you identify what success is to you. We already know that society has its own model of success and that model affects everyone's viewpoint differently. Real Success looks different to each individual according to his or her conditioned beliefs and life experiences. Life experiences also plays a huge part in what a person thinks success is for them. Some people are okay with the achievement of perceived small successes. Other people's idea of success looks a little bigger to them. Even so, success is still only but a perception made into a reality by the mind. One persons success can easily be viewed as failure to another and vise versa.

If perceptions create our reality then work output is also only a perception. People perceive they are doing more to achieve success. I have been training people in their pursuit of building the success mindset for years. One thing that I've come to understand is that people have no clue how much work it takes to be successful. Every single person that I've trained over the past few decades underestimated the level of work it takes to become a success, no matter what the pursuit. No matter whether these people had small goals or large they were not prepared for the workload. 100% of the time it would take more work output than expected by the trainees. This is why so many people are failing at goal-achievement, even though they have the full intentions of succeeding. People are constantly underestimating the success work output needed to accomplish whatever they set out to do. People expect more to happen while doing less.

High performance people do not have the issues with work output like most, so they reach their goals more often. People who create a high performance mindset and lifestyle gravitate towards hard work. High performance people make themselves comfortable with hard work. People who develop the high performance mindset have the knowledge that hard work comes with the territory when seeking higher levels of success. People who shy away from hard work more times than not are looking for the easy way out. Let's get something crystal clear here... Just because you underestimate goal-achievement workload output does not mean you are lazy. In fact it is likely the complete opposite, and you are diligent in working toward your goals. But being diligent in working toward success does not equate to knowing what it takes to achieve it. When people give up on their goals they most of the time believe they have done enough. Doing “enough” is their perception of what it takes to be a high performance goal-achiever.

What is the reality? The reality is that anytime a person thinks they are doing “enough” to achieve a goal, they are not. What's happening is their workload output perception is much lower than it should be. This will almost always trick the mind into believing a person has done more, when they have done less. Have you ever heard the saying "less is more"? Well in this case less isn't more, it's less. People who do not accomplish their set-goals are always doing less. Many times this person is doing less because of one fear or another but we'll save that idea for another time. But I will say this... Over the years I've come to the understanding that many people lower their workload output because they are afraid of success. The idea is that if they fail at least they can say I tried. If you are a “try” person you are likely not a high performance individual, and successful goal achievement is going to be difficult at best. Trying if negative by default or at least lacks complete positive energy. Trying is only part of the way there, not all of the way. People with the high performance mindset in place Go All The Way.

To become a person that will go all the way, to do whatever it takes, you must get rid of the “try” mindset all together. Winners disconnect from “try” and connect with a high workload output. If you want to connect to the success mindset that is already built-in the deepest parts of you throw “try” in to the waste can. Tell yourself that you are now connected to the highest workload output. Follow the five tips below to get you started and continue them for at least 21 days. Somewhere during this time these five tips will become habits, but only the first stage of habit. It takes around 21 days to form a new habit but good habits are harder to keep going, so it may take a bit longer. Don't Give Up! Remember your goal is to become a high performance person that is a master of Successful Goal Achievement.

How do you get better at developing higher goal-achievement workload output?

  1. Focus on doing, not on what you've done.

  2. Stop fearing success by acknowledge and being grateful for every small achievement.

  3. When you think you're "doing enough" add 20% to your workload output.

  4. Find and listen to people who are high performers. This will give you a glimpse into how hard and smart they work. Mimic what you learn and ask yourself why you want to be a high performance person.

  5. Discover your smallest weakness and fix it. Acknowledging and fixing your smallest weakness can turn the tides on successful goal-achievement. Sometimes it's the small things that are holding us back from achieving success. Fix it and move on to the next smallest issue.

when you sir wrote, "What is the reality? The reality is that anytime a person thinks they are doing “enough” to achieve a goal, they are not." it hits me in the spot. This is very true and all this time I've been doing this, and now that I've read your article, my eyes were opened. The problem isn't how hard the work load is, it's the mind set that drove us crazy. Making us think we had done so many great things where in fact, it's just all in our head. Thank you so much for this one.

I think it is ourselves and our fears that limit us from moving towards success. I am starting my new work project and the thinking about the disease that is in the environment limits me to open thinking about how to move forward without feeling like I am risking my life in patient care. Especially those patients who lie to me to be cared for and are infected. It is a challenging road to success. Thank you for these tips.
