A little patience, A lot of success

This is just a quick hang in there note of encouragement to other writers who, like me, are just learning to navigate the read.cash platform.

Writing for others is perhaps the most thrilling and yet humbling pastime. There's nothing to cut you down a few pegs than the possibility that your readers won't connect with your work. So these are some things to bear in mind, some things I have even had to remind myself of these past weeks.

Be prepared to work your way up from zero

As a writer, it is important to understand that each new platform you write for, each new audience is special and unique.

Your audience will differ a lot from platform to platform, and so, when you want to earn an income from writing across multiple platforms, one of the first things you will have to learn to do, I guess, is read the room.

Your product is only as valuable as the consumer deems to be.

Write for your audiences. Share content that they are interested in, that they will connect with.

Of course, this does not mean that you should expound on topics you're unfamiliar with- far from it. I am a firm believer of authenticity in your work, and so, maybe a first step might be to simply navigate the platform and read, truly read the content that's posted there.

Why? Because it helps to give you an idea of some of the topics that people are writing about, reading and responding to, and it shows you how readers and writers network and interact with each other. Maybe you can find your niche this way, writing for your audiences while still writing about content that you connect with on a core level.

One of the beautiful things about read.cash is that there are several communities in here so that you do not have to write about crypto. If you want to write about cryptocurrencies, there are communities on this platform where you can put that content out and where you will be in a room of like-minded writers. If you want to write about life, or just day to day stories, thoughts, etc., there are communities for those things as well. You can write about anything and if your work is received and respected, you'll be tipped for it. This brings me to another point.

Submit work that you are proud of.

Remember, your writing is a product. And for me, writing- whatever the topic- is personal. You're sharing bits and pieces of yourself, almost. So you don't want to be rejected because you're sloppy and unkempt and uncouth. Presentation is key.

Think of it like this: You've decided to go to a restaurant, and you order a meal. The waiter or waitress, however, has a nasty attitude. He or she is loudly chewing gum and blowing bubbles, tapping his or feet and rolling his or her eyes while you're trying to place the order.

When your meal arrives, it's sloppily thrown together on a dish, and maybe some of the food isn't even what you ordered.

The waiter or waitress slams the dish down on the table before you, and yells at you, "Eat!" He or she then stomps away.

My question to you is this: Will you be tipping generously?

It's likely you wouldn't, right? And why?

Because the waiter was rude, the establishment didn't care for the presentation of your meal, you didn't get the food you asked for... the entire experience didn't make you feel good. So you don't tip, or you tip the bare minimum.

And so, the thing is, if you expect to be served well and with care, then shouldn't you attempt to do the same with your work? Because, after all, isn't it said that writing and stories is food for the soul?

Give to others the respect and support you would like for yourself.

Remember, this is a melting pot of writers and aspiring writers, like yourself, and you'd like to know that others are reading and connecting with your work. You'd like to know that they find value in it, and not just skimming past it and hastily putting out their own content.

That's not the idea of a community, not a healthy one that is. And so, don't be that guy. Read. Truly read. Reading provides you with a great opportunity to learn, and then you can also give constructive feedback to your peers as well.

Be patient, have faith and write because you enjoy it.

I agree, it can be daunting if you're writing and it seems like no one is reading your content. But I guess, this is where patience is key. Maybe, you won't get there today or tomorrow, but keep writing, keep honing your skills, keep supporting your peers, keep trying and you'll get there. It's what I'm doing.

Respect every person who stops by. Appreciate the fact that they took the time. And be grateful for every reader who subscribes. I'm up to ten at the time of this post and I'm on top of the world for it because I have faith that I am going to continue to grow.

When I was a kid, there was this teacher at my primary school, an elderly gentleman who has since transitioned, and he used to begin assembly every morning with a lesson on persistence. Even today, his voice rings in my head. He'd say: "If at first you fail to succeed, try and try again."

Try and try again. That's my motto.

And so, dear readers and writers, to recap my message:

  • Write for your audiences.

  • Give the respect and support to fellow writers that you'd like for yourself

  • Presentation is key, submit work that you are proud of.

  • Be patient and write because you enjoy it

  • Eventually the readers will come.

Well, guys, those are my thoughts on writing at read.cash.

I know I didn't spend much time on the structure and form and mechanics of writing a blog, but I hope that these thoughts are helpful and encouraging as well.

Please continue to have a great weekend, and we'll connect again soon.
