This information has been found in the report of the human rights organization Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK). A total of 975 rapes have taken place in nine months. Mizanur Rahman, former chairman of the Human Rights Commission, thinks, "If the rule of law is weakened, such incidents will continue to happen." The rule of law in the country has become weak. The reason for the weakening is that a circle of influence has been created. The abuse of power has undermined the rule of law. '
The incident took place on the night of September 25 at the MC College dormitory in Sylhet. A case was filed against six people known as Chhatra League activists occupying the dormitory for rape. So far all the accused have been caught. The rape of a young woman who was traveling with her husband in this traditional college caused a nationwide uproar. Shortly after the incident, a housewife from Noakhali was stripped naked and videotaped on social media. So far, a total of four people have been arrested in the incident. The woman has filed a case accusing nine people.
As many as 206 women have been gang-raped this year. Besides, 43 women were killed after being raped. And 12 women have committed suicide.According to Aske, 161 women have been sexually harassed in the last nine months. Of these, 12 women have committed suicide due to sexual harassment. Three women and six men were killed while protesting against sexual harassment.
The highest number of rapes in the last nine months was in June. There were 16 rapes this month. There were 39 incidents of gang rape in that month. This number is also the highest in nine months.
According to Ask, there have been many incidents of sexual harassment and violence, rape and murder, domestic violence, torture for dowry, domestic violence and acid throwing in the country during this period.
Nina Goswami, senior deputy director of Ask, told Prothom Alo on Monday, "The number of rapes has increased a lot in the last year and this year. Such incidents are being repeated as the culture of getting rid of crime has not stopped. One incident after another is happening including MC College. '
According to Ask, there were more rapes in the first nine months of last year (2019) than this year. At this time last year, 1,115 women were raped.According to Ask, 432 women have been victims of domestic violence in the last nine months. Of these, 269 women were killed and 64 women committed suicide due to domestic violence. A total of 16 women have been tortured over dowry. Of these, 63 have been physically abused due to dowry. Six people have been tortured to death for dowry and 18 women have committed suicide as a result of torture.
