According to Bitfarms, an increase in the number of ASIC miners will increase the hash rate above 1.2 Eh / s, which is just over one third of the company's target hash rate of 3 Eh / s. In 2020, the firm acquired and deployed about 6,000 new ASIC miners at its facilities.
The company's recent major acquisitions of ASIC miners are in line with the general trend in the industry. Riot Blockchain has recently signed a deal with Chinese manufacturer Bitmain to supply 15,000 Antminer ASIC miners to the US. Previously, Riot Blockchain acquired 2,500 Antminer S19 Pro ASIC miners from Bitmain.
At the beginning of the month, it was reported that the secondary markets for ASIC miners intensified amid growing demand from miners. Delays in shipments by major equipment manufacturers led to this. In November, analysts at Avito, a Russian ad service, also found a noticeable increase in demand for mining equipment.
Recall that in 2018, mining companies Blockchain Mining and Bitfarms announced a merger, and last year Bitfarms announced plans to move from the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange to the Toronto Stock Exchange.
