User testing
This is my latest effort in the User testing world, similar to the others, tests around talking about new apps and websites. All sorts
I've got big hope for this one, as it appears there are lots of different tests available.
Was easy to sign up to, completed a little test and some basic profile questions took about 2 weeks before was accepted.
How to get more tests
Then another 2 weeks to realise what I was doing wrong.
I was getting few emails about tests but then when tried to do them it was too late.
So I left the website open a couple of evenings and was probably invited to about 3 a day.
I have completed one test so far, talking about my own kettle and toaster took about 10 minutes and paid about $10 - is still pending so waiting to see how payment works but looking promising.
The tests
The tests were easy to complete, they can be completed on their app or on the website, instructions are quite clear and you basically go through each task talking out loud as you go through them, explaining what your seeking and how you are finding the task.
It is important to keep talking, ensure there is no background noise or distractions (impossible in my house at times) but as best you can as this will have an impact. But if you know you are going to be uninterrupted and have 10-15 minutes this is easy money from the comfort of your own home, as long as comfortable talking out loud.
Feedback
I was really impressed with the user testing feedback and whether this was a one-off on the first one or was something they do for all of them we shall see.
But a few days after completing the test I got the following feedback.
Overall, good job on your first test! Please note that most tests are not this short. A typical test should take you around 15-20 minutes to complete. You focused on the tasks well and had a nice running commentary of your thoughts. We do recommend that you speak a little louder and make an extra effort to pronounce your words clearly. Unfortunately, if a customer cannot easily hear and understand you, they will rate you lower. For future tests, keep asking questions and adding comments to explain what you're thinking. The more you explain why you do things and what you are expecting, the more useful your video will be for the customer. There was background noise (e.g., talking) during your recording which was distracting. You risk receiving a poor rating if the customer must struggle to hear your feedback. Please only accept a test if you are ready and prepared to provide uninterrupted feedback for the customer. For future tests, please find a quiet place where you can focus. If you get interrupted during a recording, click the "pause" button on the recorder and resume when you are ready to focus again.
It is clear that they pay very close attention to what you are doing and you can't hide anything from them. But the feedback was encouraging and gives me things to make sure I improve next time. Rating 4 stars out of 5. You will want to keep that rating score up in order to get access to as many tests as possible.
Payment
Payment is paid exactly 7 days after the successful test via Paypal. Making it a nice regular payment. There are going to be a lot of tests that you are not suitable for and in my opinion the safest thing to do is not engage in them you risk giving poor feedback which in turn will risk your place on the panel.
Looking forward to doing much more on the platform however
I am loving user testing at the moment, I think if I worked different times, and my house wasn't such a mad house in the evenings I could earn a lot more from this, but whenever I get a spare moment quickly checking this and similar sites is really good way of making some extra money, and much better use for your time than others.
app.usertesting.com - this is a great site and its a reason why its the original I think, long way to go before it beats my favourite intellizoom but we shall see in time
