How to write a Podcast Description

In part three of my Podcasting for Life Series, I shared **how to choose a name for your podcast**. Today I'm sharing how to write a podcast description.  https://read.cash/@Thefightwithinher/how-to-choose-a-name-for-your-podcast-3322a505 Having a good description is one of the most important goals of creating a successful podcast. If it doesn't catch the eye of a potential fan, chances are your podcast will get left behind. This means your podcast's summary must describe the show's value accurately as well as provide additional information on what your potential fans can expect to hear.  You will want to write a description that includes why your listeners should listen to your podcast and why your episodes are worth listening to. And keep in mind that your new readers may read your podcast's description on their cell phone, tablet, or laptop, so it's always a good idea to get their attention in those first few words and avoid repeating details that you already have available such as the name of your podcast.  For example, My podcast name is **The Fight Within Her**. My podcast's description states, *"Just an ADHD mom raising an Autistic son while working from home in a small town, one podcast at a time."* https://anchor.fm/thefightwithinher/episodes/3-ADHD-and-How-Entrepreneurs-can-Benefit-From-Their-Symptoms-ef1k2a Also, when you are thinking about the description, think about niche-related keywords that will allow your podcast to be in the top results on a search engine like Google.  Also, keep in mind the length of your podcast's description. Every podcast platform has a maximum allowance for how many characters you can include in your description, so while **Apple Podcast** users may be allowed more than 1,000 characters, **Spotify** may online allow a maximum of 500. Once you have created your description, don't forget to select the category for your podcast. Categories are just as important as your podcast's description because it is one of the most common ways people find new podcasts like yours.  If you are just not sure which category is right for your podcast, think about your niche. For example, my podcast's niche is about ADHD and Autism, so I selected Mental Health for my category. On some podcast platforms, in addition to being able to select your main category, you may have the option to choose a sub-category. If you have this option, continue thinking about your niche's keywords and include them under the sub-category.
