Elvis Presley. The king of rock and roll
Elvis Presley is one of the most recognizable music legends in the world, since the mark left by this artist is more than outstanding, all the symbolism, stigma and criticism that can present this character of music is worthy of being studied and used in the reflection since several of the events that happened to this artist are still seen today, for that and much more Bach's fugue will give you a review of the life and work of Elvis Presley, and we will explain why he is a music legend.
Elvis before his reign
Elvis Presley was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi in a humble family with few resources, but nevertheless in those times an event occurred that would mean a before and after in the life of Elvis, to obtain his first guitar.
Following with the order of ideas, Elvis at the age of 11 asked his mother to buy him a bicycle, he went to the tupelo hardware store, where the owners of the store said that the first thing Elvis saw that day was a rifle, it was then that the little boy told his mother that he no longer wanted a bicycle but a rifle, This idea did not please the mother so she continued to negotiate with him and make him understand that the best thing for him is not a rifle but a guitar, for something they say that mothers are always right, because that guitar was a tremendous investment that would mean a before and after in the life of his son and his family.
The guitar cost about 7.90 dollars of the time, but nevertheless that same guitar was auctioned in 2020 for 1.3 million dollars, to this day one never ceases to wonder, what would be of Elvis' life if the mother had bought him the rifle, to this day that question has no answer, but what is known is what happened after the event.
A new home for Elvis, see you soon Mississippi at the age of 13 Elvis and his family moved to Memphis Tennessee, a place where the musical attitude was everywhere, it was at this time that Elvis would get to know genres like gospel and blues, to get together with more specialized musicians where he was taught to play the guitar and teach them the techniques and styles of the time, but we must understand that all this learning was purely and simply for the love of art, because after leaving high school, King Elvis Presley started a job as a truck driver, but this would not last long.
But however, this would not last long because at that time he would take the step that would change his life.
Elvis Presley's first recording. The rise of his reign, a star was just born
On his mother's birthday, Elvis went to a recording studio to record a song and make a special gift to his mother, Elvis went to a recording studio called sun records, that's where Elvis met the producer and owner of the studio Sam Phillips, the same day of the recording of the record did not happen much, but it made the producer in question was filled with concern, as he was born an instinct that shouted that the boy from tupelo had something special.
Because of the above mentioned, the producer Sam Phillips called Elvis a year later for an audition, on that same day a recording was made where phillips did not see anything special or outstanding in the boy from mississippi, there was nothing new, but all that changed in a break they had where Elvis began to sing a cover of a song titled that's all right, and just in that moment was when sam saw the potential of Elvis, after that, immediately they stopped resting, they connected again all the equipment and recorded the song before mentioned, transforming this way in this as the first single of Elvis Presley becoming a success in all Memphis, in that same instant the life of Elvis would begin to change with only 19 years old, and a new king for the world was born, a new contract and thus Elvis would begin to change.
A new contract
And so Elvis and sam started to work giving excellent results, however that was the only thing that was profitable for sam's company at that time, in fact, he started to accumulate a bigger and bigger debt that he was unable to pay making that in several occasions he couldn't pay Elvis the royalties of his songs.
And at that precise moment, an ultra mega interesting character appeared who had already worked with sam and Elvis before helping them to promote several Elvis concerts, an immigrant born in the netherlands who arrived with only 20 years old to the united states, and lived the rest of his life, without papers, that is to say undocumented, his strategy was to change his name from andrea cornelius to Tom Parker, and he also claimed that he was born in the united states...surprisingly his strategy worked until the end of his days.
Tom Parker then, one day tom sent a telegram to sam asking him how much he would sell him the contract he had with Elvis Presley, sam did not like at all the idea of losing that contract but his expenses were so great that in the end he gave in and gave tom an offer to stay with Elvis and thus become his manager, it should be noted that Tom Parker was the one who made Elvis jump to fame only a few months later, since he had a contract with R. S. A., the first commercial success that Elvis had. S.A., the first commercial success of Elvis was the following year in 1956 with the single heartbreak hotel, and that same year he made his debut on national television in a program called stage show.
It is worth mentioning that parker did everything in his power to put Elvis on the map, he made sure he appeared on tv, radio, movies, and even created merchandise with Elvis' face on it.
Fun fact: as Elvis' manager, tom earned more than 50% of the profits, something quite lucrative and never before seen in a manager's contract.
The call of duty
By this time it is obvious that Elvis fever had already established itself in the united states, and in 1957 Elvis bought his house in memphis which he called graceland, on the other hand Elvis Presley was the center of controversy since it was said that Elvis' movements were too sexual and vulgar (funny how times change), it was evident that Elvis was setting a precedent in the history of music.
Fun fact: ed sullivan claimed that Elvis Presley would never be on his show, until he saw how the ratings of the competition went up when Elvis appeared as a guest.
Well following with the order of ideas, Elvis kept on creating hits like hound dog, blue suede shoes, and jailhouse rock made Elvis earn the nickname of the king of rock and roll or simply the king, but nevertheless in 1958 in one of the highest points of Elvis Presley's career when he had already become the biggest star of his generation, he received a letter where he was summoned by his father, Elvis Presley, and he was asked to be a guest on the show, he received a letter in which he was summoned to perform compulsory military service, here we must clarify that in those times if you were a musical artist you could reduce the period of the army for 6 months and you only had to make presentations to entertain the soldiers, something very simple and easy, but nevertheless, manager Parker objected strongly because he knew that the army performances that Elvis would do would be recorded and then those recordings would go to television shows where neither he nor Elvis would make a dime, so manager Tom convinced Elvis to do the mandatory 2 years of military service as a way to strategically get rid of the bad reputation he had gained from those years, by not seeking preferential treatment as an artist and fulfilling the years of mandatory service like any other civilian would make Elvis look like a hero, making him remove the bad reputation he had earned, so Elvis enlisted in the military service.
In those 2 years, Presley went to germany, where he met priscilla, who at that time was 14 years old, he would marry her 9 years later.
After the 2 years of military service, Elvis' career was never the same again, as he put aside concerts to focus on making movies, but nevertheless, the popularity of Elvis was endangered by what is known today in the history of music as "the british invasion" which are all these british bands that were all the rage in the world, bands like the beatles (in which you will soon see a historical analysis made by the escape of bach by this same social network) and the rolling stones, these bands began to capture the attention of the americans.
The king will always be the king
In spite of the arrival of the british, at the end of the 60's Elvis managed to make a triumphant return in a television program called the special of the return of 68, then in 1969 he enters again in the billboards with the theme suspicious minds, he spends his residence in la vegas and for icing on the cake he makes a concert that is transmitted all over the world called Elvis aloha from hawaii, a program that was seen by more than 1.5 billion people.
After his great triumphant comeback, Elvis began to have health problems, dying at the age of 42 on August 16, 1977.
