For a period of eon now, the ANC has been bedevilled by the scourge of politically influenced killings, particularly during the local government elections season, as prospective candidates list are formally put together.

We saw several incidents of cruelty, in particular the brutal murder of Tshwane Councillor, Tshepo Motaung a few weeks ago who was gunned down on his way from a local branch general meeting.
Although there was no evidence to attribute it to political influence, signs were luminous to substantively deem it as such considering that it was at a time there were huge concerns by some members of the party regarding manipulation of candidates lists.

Meanwhile, an senior ANC leader in the Mpumalanga province was arrested this morning on charges related to murder and attempted murder.
Although the South African Police Services did not disclose his identity nor the motive behind the incident, speculation is already swirling that he might have been involved in a matter pertaining to politics.

Police minister, Bheki Cele was quoted saying that it is an indisputable fact that most of political killings are planned assassinations.
He indicated that police will embark on a process to clamp down on the any of those engaged in wrongdoing especially during the time of elections.
