All Thieves - Turn and Turn Again
Worn from walking this far
So worn from talking this much
And we found and what we've seen
As the road curves down
And the light come up to meet us
Silent for the evening
We enter this town
Like new born creatures
Those I know I see anew
And the space between us is reduced
For I am human
And you are human too.
So turn and turn again
We are calling in all the ships
Every traveller please come home
And tell us all that you have seen
Break every lock to every door
Return every gun to every draw
So we can turn
And turn again.
Only priest and clown can save us now
Only a sign from God or hurricane
Can bring about
The change we all want
And we've done it again
This trick we have
Of turning love to pain
And peace to war
We're just ash in a jar...
So turn and turn again
We are calling in all the ships
Every traveller please come home
And tell us all that you have seen
Break every lock to every door
Return every gun to every draw
So we can turn
And turn again (x2)
N.B- That right there is exactly how I'm feeling at the moment.
It may seem ironic but I gotta say listening to this song brings me little peace. It's like in its words I feel a semblance of peace deep within. Even in its glaring disposition and obvious contempt for what the world is today, it recognises that and allows us to see past all that and hope for better. A clean slate. A fresh start. A new beginning.
Some might think it all has something to do with what was said at the beginning; us humans should stop hurting each other, stop keeping secrets from and for each other and start using our hearts and brains for the betterment of society. And maybe we do need a new beginning.
When I think about the particular line;
"and the space between us is reduced"
Describes how sad familiarity can be sometimes. It's like we stop making the efforts. It becomes boring and then resentment sets in. Petty resentments. Just makes everything feel like we're trying too hard or not trying hard enough. Some of us don't even care anymore. There is no balance and there in lines the issue. It's just sad.
And this other line...
"Only a sign from God or a hurricane"
Now, you begin to hate for the same reason you fell in love. Things that made you laugh, irritate you now. You then wallow in misery and so does your partner. It all leads to one obvious conclusion, the misery and resentment sets in and you just wallow in it cause they say... "Misery loves Company" and you begin to think about how you ended up there.
A/N: I truly love this song, it allows you actually think, evaluate and reflect inwardly on yourself, your actions or inactions. Sometimes, it might feel like having an existential crisis or an existential ennui but amidst all that, you learn recognise your truth and learn to do better. Having moments like this and taking the time to actually reflect and look inwardly at yourself builds self awareness which is incredibly enlightening. That's it for today guys. Take care. Keep safe. Toodles!
