Joe Biden has covid
US President Joe Biden has tested positive for Covid. However, the White House said his disease symptoms are very mild.
According to the BBC, the 79-year-old president received a full dose of the Covid vaccine and two booster doses.
He will carry out all his duties in isolation at the White House, according to a statement.
Officials said the president was taking the antiviral drug paxlovid. He will participate in the meeting through telephone and Zoom.
In a statement, the president's press secretary said that taking paxlovid may reduce the president's risk of hospitalization.
The medical unit will provide information on who Biden came in contact with on Thursday and whether any lawmakers traveled with the president on Wednesday, the White House said.
First Lady Jill Biden's office said on Thursday that although the president is infected, his wife Jill Biden's Covid test results have come back 'negative'.
Biden attended an event in Massachusetts last Wednesday to announce policies to combat climate change.
Several legislators and administrative officials were present there. It is not clear whether any of them came into close contact with President Biden.
