It’s interesting to watch the wave of euphoria emanating from the US in comparison to the UK where NFTs are concerned. Watching the chasm of indifference reduce over the next six months as more access to the and understanding of smart contracts becomes common place, will also be interesting.
There so much scope with NFTs it’s understandable that your average creative enthusiast hasn’t yet got their head around where they fit into the growing new medium. That’s if they even know about it.
I’ve lost count of the number of times over the last few months where I have asked someone here in the UK if they know what an NFT is, only to be met with a blank stare or silence …
I know this will change but watching the likes of D Block Europe, one of the most successful British hip hop collectives of 2020 (MOBO award winners), drop their first foray into the Nonfungible Token space earlier this year and, well, seeing it go over most of their UK fans heads, was pretty significant.
Contrast that to pretty much any of your favourite American artists who have dipped their toe into the NFT world and it’s clear to see there is a huge potential area of growth over on this side of the Atlantic.
I got an email this week which all but compounded the feeling that Britain was a tad behind the times.
The globally universal appreciation of the multi-faceted dynamics a Nonfungible Token can offer just are not present on these shores according to Piplsay research.
Key insights from a recent survey in the US and the UK from March 29-31, involving 6,050 Britons and 30,390 Americans, revealed the following:
33% of Britons believe NFTs are just a fad, while 59% of Americans believe they will be the next big thing
40% of Britons think NFTs may not be safe as compared to 33% of Americans
49% of Britons feel celebrities should act responsibly given cryptocurrency’s contribution to global warming
I know from my own personal experience writing about the subject that if the content isn’t aimed at a knowledgeable audience there’s a good chance it won’t be noticed.
This all speaks very loudly about the noise we keep hearing about NFTs taking over the Crypto art, music and entertainment world.
Is it all a fuss about nothing? Is this just a bubble? Will you, dear reader, be buying yourself or your loved ones any NFTs?
