The United Kingdom is the first country to approve the coronavirus vaccine invented by Pfizer and BioNTech. One married couple had to work hard to find a vaccine. Many of us don't know about them. A German couple of Turkish descent has developed a vaccine for the coronavirus called Pfizer. After the trial, it is said that this vaccine is able to provide 90 percent protection against coronavirus. The couple founded a company called BioNTech in 2008 in the western German city of Mainz. The main goal of this company was research on cancer. But after learning about the coronavirus in January, the couple became interested in discovering an antidote. The vaccine was developed jointly with the American Pfizer Company.

One of the couple is Professor Ugur Sahin. He is the Co-founder of BioNTech. He is accompanied by his wife and medical officer Dr. Ozlem Turesi. Both were born into immigrant families in Turkey.

Professor Sahin's father worked in a factory in Cologne. He left Turkey with his mother when he was four years old. He studied medicine at Cologne University. Sahin used to spend time in the lab researching till late at night before returning home on a bicycle. But the best thing is that he still rides his bicycle home for health reasons. According to many experts Cycling is a very good exercise. BioNTech had been researching cancer before the epidemic but no drug has been approved for them yet.

Ozlem Turesi, meanwhile, is influenced by his father's career. His father was a very good physician. Like his father, he started his professional life as a doctor.

The market value of their company stood at 21 billion after the announcement of the vaccine discovery. But a year ago it was worth 6 billion. Professor Sahin, who is the chief executive of the company, owns 18 percent of the shares, which means he owns almost one-fifth. Professor Sahin is currently one of the top 10 richest people in Germany.

His wife Dr. Ozlem Turesi, chief medical officer of the company. The couple married in 2002. Then Professor Sahin to work at the University Medical Center in Mainz. Even on their wedding day, Professor Sahin worked in the lab. And at present he is one of the best teachers in this university. They started their journey in 2001 as biotech entrepreneurs. They Founded a company called Ganymede Pharmaceuticals. Whose goal was to create cancer drugs. They sold it to 422 million pounds country in 2016. According to the German magazine DU & ICH, there are about 1,300 employees in 60 countries in the company. More than 400 workers were hired to work with the coronavirus and to develop a vaccine against the coronavirus, according to Der Landser report in January.
