The 2019 SARS-CoV-2 (CoVid-19) Pandemic is one of the worst things to ever occur in the modern day, and is one of the events that will always remind us that 2020 has been a horrible year. It changed the way we live, interact, and socialize today, perhaps a possibility of changing things forever. It crashed and crippled industries, brought economies and healthcare services of various nations to their knees, claiming countless lives in the process, and striking fear into everyone, particularly to the vulnerable and the elderly.
Whilst the brave front-liners do the exhausting and demanding work of saving lives, and the government struggling to devise ways of keeping people alive and the country's economy afloat, life has never been the same since pre-CoVid times. We can still remember how we used to fill up malls, churches, schools, and beaches; how we traveled from one place to another, had fun and enjoyed the bright sunny days. But, things have changed since then. The streets cleared out of playful children, all those famous tourist spots and huge shopping malls suddenly went silent, with everybody else staying put at home.
It's unfair to say that CoVid-19 caused only bad things, because during the quarantine period, we got stuck inside the walls of our homes, we've had more time with our loved ones, our dependency towards social media and gadgets became more evident, and that earth healed from its scars as pollution was reduced to a minimum. Perhaps, we all got used to its nature that we managed to adopt new ways of working at home, studying from home, and also having fun and enjoying life as it is whilst on quarantine.
Life during the quarantine period is nothing short of fun, boredom, foods and sleep, and many more things. For a typical person without any gadgets or any useful internet to use as pastime, it’s a challenging thing to keep yourself from getting bored. What’s more frustrating is that, you can’t even watch anything useful on your TV since your favorite cable TV provider just went dark. Then there goes the other type of person, with a good internet connection and a capable set of devices. It’s also a tough time to get yourself out of your News Feed, from your favorite Wattpad series, or from watching your favorite vlogger, and playing your favorite online games.
Let’s be honest, with internet or without, with phones or none, we always come to a point where we run out of things to do and get bored. We start planning to go outside and meet with friends and hang out together, at least in a jiffy. Unknown to us, there are many more things that we can do at home without needing to get out and risk contracting the virus. Perhaps, the long time that we spend inside our homes is actually a big opportunity for us to start discovering, learning, and exploring stuff we haven’t got into before. Who knows? One might be an excellent writer, an artist, a photographer, a vlogger, an awesome cook, but completely have no idea he/she possesses such skills and talents.
It would be absurd to say that the quarantine period is a time of boredom, when in fact, there was a lot that can be done. It only takes the will and urge do discover/create something new, something out of the ordinary. You can watch, you can play, you can make and break. You can try and fry, you can fix and mix, you can earn and learn. There’s a lot of useful things that we can do even without having to go outside our homes. But at the end of the day, it is still us, and our compliance that matters into overcoming the CoVid-19 drama. As we unite in prayer for the healing of all mankind, let us also not forget to thank God for blessing us with good health and life up to this day. Let us cherish these times we spend with our dearest loved ones, and make each day count. Because in the end, we are all in this together, and together, we heal as one.
