COPD is a chronic, slowly progressive disorder characterized by airflow obstruction which doesn't not change markedly over several months. The important of lung function is largely fixed but may be partially reversible by bronchodialator. Chlorine Obstructive Pulmonary Disease is the internationally preferred term encompassing chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Although 'pure' forms of those two conditions do exist there is considerable overlap is the vast majority of patients.
