The government has decided to set up 24 observation towers in Rohingya camps to monitor the Rohingya and to control and maintain the content of the YouTube channel. At the same time, in the interest of maintaining law and order, it is being considered to bring all the local channels of YouTube under registration. A high-level committee headed by the Home Minister will be formed to monitor any major incident in the country.
The information was given to the media after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order at the Home Minister's Office on Tuesday. The meeting was held from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm. The issue was discussed at the meeting. AQM Mozammel Haque said the government would ask YouTube and Facebook authorities to open an office in Dhaka.
It was decided at the meeting that a committee headed by the Home Minister would be formed to properly monitor any major incident in the country. In case of any major incident or accident in the country, the intelligence agencies will submit a report to this committee. The discussion at the meeting came up with the opening of a YouTube channel that is releasing content on social networks. There is a risk of not being able to monitor channels like conventional media. Therefore, the need to bring the channels under surveillance was emphasized in the meeting. AQM Mozammel Haque, chief minister for Liberation War Affairs, told the meeting that local YouTube channels were being considered for registration. The meeting also decided to set up 24 observation towers in Rohingya camps to monitor the Rohingyas.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was also present at the meeting. Law Minister Anisul Haque and State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury joined the virtual meeting. Besides, IG of Police Benazir Ahmed, Director General of RAB, representatives of various intelligence agencies, senior officials of concerned ministries and departments took part in the meeting.
It was a good development if the government can share more light on YouTube bases
