According to Reuters, the international research team first saw phosphine gas in the clouds of Venus through the James Clark Maxwell Telescope located on the island of Hawaii. He then confirmed it with the ALMA radio telescope from the Atacama Desert in Chile.
"It's also quite unexpected, astonishing," says astronomer Gen Graves.
