A Battle between Two Brothers: Adidas vs Puma
Fighting between kings is nothing new. In real war one king defeats another king. However, the concept of losing in the market war of the economy is quite relative. The fight between two capable companies increases competition in the market, creates new innovations, dreams of going further. Again the fight story is also amazing. Like Adidas and Puma. The names of these two German manufacturers of world-famous sports equipment are now known to everyone. However, many people do not know that the two brothers are the owners of these two companies. Adolf vs. Rudolph: The historical rivalry that gave birth to the two famous brands Adidas and Puma - that's the story to tell today.
Rudolf Dazzler and Adolf Dazzler are two brothers. In 1920, they established the shoe manufacturing company 'Dazzler Brothers Shoe Factory' in Harzgenure, Germany. Their company is very popular. Their shoes are used by famous runner Jesse Owens. This popular American athlete gained international fame by winning gold medals in the 100m, 200m, long jump and 400m relay at the 1936 Summer Olympics held in Berlin. Dazzler Brothers Shoe Factory was in such a prosperous condition.
However, the similarity of the two brothers did not last long. Within twenty years, the company was divided. There are many stories about what started the conflict between the two brothers. A common story is that between Rudy (Rudolph) and Eddie (Adolf), Rudy, the older brother, was handsome, lively and gregarious. Eddie, on the other hand, is a bit quieter, but has an innovative spirit. At one point, Rudy developed an affair with Eddie's wife, Cathy. Eddie could never forgive this immoral relationship. And as a result, the relationship breaks. The company is divided.
Another story is prevalent. As mentioned earlier, the younger brother Eddie was an innovative mind. He had a strong passion for sports. From his childhood, he thought of making 'sports shoes' that could enhance the performance of athletes. Eddie used to make shoes out of army supplies in the back of his mother's laundry room. Built a shoe factory in 1920, joined by elder brother Rudy after returning from World War I in 1923. The new type of shoe 'spiked shoe' brought fame to the two brothers. This shoe was completely designed by Eddie. The following is the story of the company's success.
German athletes were getting gold medals in various international competitions . Dazzler brothers were getting a big credit. However, the relationship between the two brothers is bitter about who made these shoes.
When World War II started in 1939, many companies closed due to financial depression. Labor became hard to come by, as most people were forced to join the army. Early in the war, the main control of the 'Dazzler Brothers Shoe Factory' passed to Rudolph.
At that time, Rudy even refused to take sister Mary's sons into the company. Mary's two sons later joined the battle and were killed. Family problems escalated.
Eddie went to war in 1940. However, the need for him in the company is very high - he left with the clearance. Later in 1943 Rudolph joined the war against his will. At some point, Rudolph plans to get out of the army. After much planning, Rudy is able to return to his hometown, but is arrested by Hitler's puppet Gestapo and spends the rest of the war in prison. Then the entire authority of the company passed into the hands of Adolph.
Although freed from prison at the end of the war, Rudolph's suffering did not end. The United States began a search for those who had joined the Nazi forces. Rudolph was arrested again. Adolf did not stand by him at this time but confirmed Rudi's relationship with the Nazi forces.
Adolf was arrested in 1946 for his involvement with the Nazi forces. Rudolph sees this as an opportunity to take power. But in the end, Eddie was found innocent and released.
With this, the relationship between the two brothers deteriorated. The company was divided in 1948. The conversation between the two brothers on the day of partition was the last conversation. After that, the two brothers did not speak again until their death. Rudolf died in 1974, Adolf in 1978.
Adolf's company debuted as Adidas on August 18, 1949. Rudolph founded the Puma company the year before. Since then there has been an intense rivalry between the two companies. But Adidas is always slightly ahead in this fight.
