The Chess Of International Politics (Part Two)
A lot of people still can't and don't believe that Russia actually did invade Ukraine. In the weeks before the invasion, Russia kept amassing troops all along the Ukrainian border and the west kept up their propaganda going. The US didn't count on Russia actually going through with it, but that turned out wrong.

The government in Moscow actually does believe they are the in the right and that's spells trouble. Again it's important we admit that Russia's concerns are really quite legit. If it was Russia putting troops in Mexico and hosting weapons in Canada under the pretext of honoring the agreement of a supposed military alliance, the US would not have let it happen. Someone gave an analogy I will like to repeat. If your neighbours are allowing in criminals and cultist in, you have no choice than to find a way to evict them, because if you don't, they will come get you some day.

But that's not my focus for today. I intend to talk about the second, albeit underlying motive for Russia invading Ukraine. Russia has never quite gotten past the shame of the dissolution of the former soviet union, especially seeing that the collective that forms the United states didn't go through the same. Over the years, Russia has been looking for ways to erase that shame, that ugly episode from their history.
Whether you like it or not, Russia still considers all the states that were formed as a result of the dissolution of the Soviet Union to be parts of Russia and I'm certain every successive government that have occupied the seat of government in Moscow have at one point or the other, have made a top-secret plan on how to get them all back together. Something that will make the US look to them, as a rat is to a cat.
Like every other successive government that have been in Moscow, Putin definitely has such a grand plan, but what he didn't have was an excuse, a opening, and that's what he has been given by this whole situation.
Ukraine didn't really have to commit any crime, its crime was one of existence, Ukraine's crime to Russia is that it existed outside of Russia. Russia sees itself as a remodeled and upgraded Soviet Union, but to fully enjoy that feeling, Putin thought he must find a way to make the reunification happen.
So yes, Russia is not in Ukraine only because they want to prevent the US from hijacking or standing at it's border, but also because they want Ukraine back in Russia. This is why i fear for the shameful responses we're seeing from the EU and their allies. They seem quite clueless and are imposing stupid sanctions that won't work, just like it didn't didn't work during the annexation of Crimea. My fear is with such a week response, the West has basically emboldened Putin by these actions.
If the Russia military invasion succeed, a precedence would have been set, and I'm sure Ukraine would just be one of many afterwards. Russia will just move forward with their intent of rebuild the Soviet union and there's no telling who will be next.
Conclusion
This is the real reason I don't see a political solution to this conflict. What has started in Ukraine will not end until the last of the former Soviet Union is reabsorbed into Russia, for eventually their narrative will be that they are taking what's theirs.
