Forced Absence And The End Of A Journey
Lately, the past three days to be precise, I've been absent from read.cash and I've been minimally active for even longer than that. This wasn't by choice of course, it was quite unavoidable. I've been writing about my industrial training experience since it started and I can tell you that it has been responsible for my inactivity and absence.
I actually carried out my industrial training in two phases, and while I thought the first was stressful, I couldn't have been more wrong. The first phase was in my state of residence which is Edo state, while the second phase was at Lagos state. The journey to Lagos was filled with expectations and excitements, as it was my second time to travel to Lagos, and I was going to be trained in one of the foremost research institute in Africa. The name of the research institute is Nigerian Institute For Oceanography and Marine Research. It's one of the most prestigious research institute specialising in marine and brackish water research in Nigeria, Africa and the world at large.
It took less than a week though, for all of my expectations to fall to the ground. Firstly, all the expectations i had concerning Lagos state was grossly disappointed. I couldn't help but conclude that people who live in Lagos have a different way of seeing things when they live somewhere outside the state. For all the hype and talk, I really couldn't find anything that makes it any more special than any other state in the country. I can't say I was really disappointed though, I guess I'm the one that had too high and expectation of Lagos. The institute was no better in many ways. I was amazed by the sheer amount and level of sophistication of the facilities available at the institute, but that was all there was to it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the institute wasn't what they say it would be, I just happen to have been at the right place at the wrong time;how? The research staff were having a strike action and as such the place was barely up and running.
I saw a lot of interesting facilities and a lot of amazing research that were going on there, but I didn't get to see this facilities been actively put to use. It was really a painful experience cos it cost me a lot of money to go there and stay there a whole month and yet I didn't get any of the practical knowledge and training that actually brought me there. It was really displeasing.
Another reason why my time at the facility was a disaster in a manner of speaking was the way the institution-based supervisor took it upon herself to make sure to stress the life out of me and my coursemates, for the sole reason that she could. It was almost like she gained pleasure from seeing us suffer.
All of that did come to an end yesterday, when we finally left the institute as the we've exhausted our one month period. I made plans to post an article and interact yesterday, but by the time i got home after the long and eventful journey back, I was really tired, so I just freshened up, ate something and slept off. It was an end to my industrial training journey that started months ago. I'm happy it's behind me now;on to other things, I guess.
Conclusion
Maybe in my subsequent article, I would write about the eventful journey back. I'm really happy to be back home and back on read.cash. This is despite the power issue that I seem to have met. There has been no power since I got back yesterday till now. I even had to go look for a place to charge, so I could post this article, but I'm hopeful it will be fixed soon.
Thanks for your time folks
Sometimes we have high expectations of something but if we don't meet those expectations we feel disappointed, and that's what happened to you. Well, at least that month is over and now you will have time to draw conclusions from the positive part of the whole experience. Welcome home.
