Carnation -Dianthus caryophyllus

National flower carnations of Spain, Monaco, Slovenia. Carnation is native to the Mediterranean region. It is thought to have been cultivated commercially for 2,000 years. A perennial plant. The leaves are up to fifteen cm long. Thin, blue-green dull leaves. The color of the original natural flower is bright pink-purple.

Carnation cultivation is generally encouraged in greenhouses or polished sheds for the purpose of improved cut-flower production. Bright sunlight helps the plant grow and produce extra flowers

Tub planting method: Carnation flowers can be produced all year round in tubs of size 8-10 inches. Under the tub, break the broken brick 2 inches thick, fill the soil with dung and chemical fertilizer and leave it with water. After 7 days hardening seedlings of tissue culture should be planted. If the tree is 7-8 inches tall, many branches will come out if the top of the tree is cut off. Later, if the trees continue to grow, they should be tied together with poles and kept straight and watered regularly.

Water Irrigation: Regular water irrigation should be given. Trees cannot tolerate excess water. Occasionally the soil should be dried and mulched.

Diseases: For soil borne diseases, it is better to clean the soil before planting seedlings. Rotting, wilting, powdery mildew, leaf and flower stains and bosnite disease may occur. The disease should be controlled by spraying fungicides regularly.

Insects: Jabpoka, mite, thrips insects attack carnations. These should be suppressed by spraying pesticides.

Flower picking: Flowers should be collected in the morning. Flowers need to be collected before they are fully developed. Pulses should be kept as long as possible while cutting. With care, flowers can be collected from the same tree for 2-3 years.
