The first day of my field study is quite overwhelming. Lol, teaching in a public school was not my dream and looking the whack system, I can't. Can you imagine a classroom with 54 students? Not to mention half of it are stubborn? Not to forget that teachers here has different functions and roles, like a simulation. This is my first observation. And I'm disheartened. 😂

54 students it way too much... The most I have experienced during school was like 30... But even that was way too many... 🤧 It was always so noisy. It must be so exhausting as a teacher.
Indeed, flip. That's why I'm rethinking my decisions in life again whether I would really pursue teaching or something else..
You should think about if teaching is something you would like to do for the rest of your life. In every job there are times where it's not fun, but overall it should be something you like to do...
As much as I want it, I will never be financially stable and it would be impossible for me to travel the world. Another is the system sucks. Edit: Do you know that the teachers here are drown in endless debts?
I see. I looked up the average salary for teachers in the Philippines. Despite having such high responsibility for the education of new generations of the country they are earning not that much... Debt is something that is so dangerous and if you don't watch out it can destroy your whole life... But why are teachers in the Philippines in debt...?
Blame the government espescially the Department of Education for the sufferings of the teachers but it's not just only the teachers, but also the students. The classrooms are not conducive for learning, some teachers need to share classrooms, how horrible right. Also, the classrooms are not good for learning as it is very hot, they won't improvised the learning environment. The people are paying taxes but they are not using it the right way as it should be. Sorry for talking too much about it. 😂 Do you wanna know why teachers are sunken with debts? It's because the government is the one who offers loan for teachers, I hear up to 1 million pesos loan. Mostly, teachers who accepted the loan can't resign anymore as they'll be paying their debts for the rest of their lives.
Here at German schools we have something called "Hitzefrei" when it's over 27°C. Then the school director is allowed to make an announcement through the speakers that everyone can go home because it's too hot to study. I see... This sounds like a serious problem. Not getting paid much and at the same time getting offered a loan... The most dangerous thing about debt is that the interest you have to pay is compounding.
While the highest ever recorded temp here in Philippines is 42°C but the classes still go on and I forgot to tell you that there are starving children going to school which is quite sad. It's very scary to live a life with debt and interest,huh, I'd rather die. Teaching is a good passion but not in this country, you'll become moneyless and painless from enduring all the bad students. The public school teachers are actually the one renovating classrooms and sometimes school materials which is supposed to be the government's job. But there are cases where the school principals or the district in charge of the funding hoard the money.
I see... 😔 I have read a lot about a serious corruption problem in the Philippines... Maybe that could be a reason why the money doesn't always reach where it should... Do you have another passion besides teaching? What would be your dream job? What about teaching a language, for example Tagalog or English in a private language school? 🤔
Yup. And recently the vise-president who recently resigned from being secretary of the Department of Education was asking for a 10 million PHP fund for the printing and distribution of her children's book which is quite nonsense and obviously she is not the one who wrote it, she can't even answer what is the book about. There are more serious things to do than publishing a nonsense book with a political agenda. Yeah, I have other passions. I love writing and I could do freelance writing either copywriting or content and there are people who earn millions in a year by that but I'm scared of it's instability. Private schools here are really really lower-paying. It's like a part-time job for a student. If I would totally pursue the teaching career, I wouldn't do it in the Philippines I guess, but in the other countries.
Oh, wow... 😔 I see... And besides this thing that got exposed there are probably so many cases of corruption that people just don't know about. You theoretically could do freelancing besides your main job to earn additional money. This way your risk regarding an unstable income would be lower. 🤔 I see... Where I live private schools and language schools usually are pricey I think. I see! Teaching abroad sounds like a good idea. It's a tough way, but if teaching is your passion this could be worth it.
That's what I'm planning about freelancing as a side-hustle in addition to teaching. Well, I can't imagine myself working abroad for now yet. Let us see where the wind takes me. 🍃
I think that is a good idea! Maybe you could already start now. You are still young so you have all the options available.
