Does Acquiring a Bachelor's Degree Enough Here in Philippines?
Is it enough to get a bachelor's degree to land a stable job here in the Philippines? The answer is No. Even you have finish a four year degree course it doesn't guarantee you to have a good job one day. Even if you have a stable job, the wages is not enough to sustain your day to day needs. This is actually the reason why we have a lot of **Overseas Filipino Workers** or also known in the term as **OFW**. They are the Filipinos who decided to try their luck abroad to find more better opportunities and employment satisfaction. One of the biggest dreams of every Filipino parents and family are to see their children finished and obtained a college degree. This automatically puts a notion in our minds that we will have a good life. Sadly, the **unemployment** rate here in the Philippines is high and the government fails to provide a proper job for every single person. The Philippines has long been a labor exporting market. Everyday thousands of Filipinos leave the country on a daily basis to seek job and provide the needs of their family. The country's education system continues to produce college graduates but they doesn't qualify in the job market This causes distress for every college graduates thinking that once they will graduate they can help their family. According to the **Department of Labor and Employment or DOLE**, most of the unemployed are the educated. How come the college graduates have no jobs? It is because there is no enough job for everyone. ***One of the possible reasons why Philippines can't provide enough job for the people:*** **Oversupply of graduates** Isn't it a good thing? Not here in the Philippines. Getting a degree is common here however the labour force doesn't have enough space to accommodate every single graduates. It doesn't make sense if you keep producing a lot of college graduates yet there is no enough job for them. Whereas from other countries, it is not necessary to obtain a college degree as long as you have the **skills** then you can use that to be hired and employed. So where did we go wrong? **Overcorruption in the country** Corruption is very rampant here in the Philippines. Every year we have debts from different countries to fill our economic gaps. It has been a cycle through the decades. One of the recent corruption that was exposed to the public here is the corruption of the **Philippine Health Insurance** or **PhilHealth** amidst the Covid19 is happening. The **P15** **billion** fund was missing in the pandemic. Due to this corruption, they have changed their name into something new to mask up the crime. **Overpopulation** One of the hard reality we are facing is that the younger generations are giving birth already. A **15 years old** is already a mother carrying the baby. How can a 15 year old raise the child if she has no job yet? This makes the cycle of poverty never ending. If the young generations will continue to give birth without a job, these will pump the population but not the employment rate. Is there a hope for our country? Yes there is. If the government and the people will contribute to each other, we can be a totally productive country in the future and let those who look down to us be proud and shock. It is not about mass production of **college graduates** but it's about providing lot of jobs for every single one. If one has a **skill**, that person doesn't need to go to the college anymore instead he/she should develop and use this for the labor force. If we adapt how the other countries provide opportunities for the people, then maybe there are no reasons for the people inside our country to leave and serve other countries. **February 17, 2022**

No, not enough..dami my diploma pro wala work. .dami nga job opportunities pero high standards naman.. Kung wala choice sa call center bagsak, or sa mall na hndi naman line sa degree na natapus. Filipinos are doing job na hndi nla forte, just for the sake of getting salary needed to survive. . Worse pa.. Sa government institutions, need backer backer. Kpg wala. Hirap makapasok.

A college degree does not guarantee success, or even wealth. Skills and attitude do. Convince your parents that spending for a four-year college course is not always the answer. Instead ask them to support technical-vocational education. Graduates of these skills training have better chances of employment, and earning higher pay.
I'm speechless to your comment. Indeed vocational trainings can land you a lot of higher paying jobs than a bachelor one and it doesn't take a lot of years to study.
Eventually, if you want to earn a college degree, you can and by then you'll know exactly what you want to study because it is integral to what you want to do. But don't waste time studying a course you're not even sure if you're interested in.
Exactly. I actually took education course because this is the closest to my heart and I am praying that there's no toxicity in the education field once I will work one day.
If a college course is necessary to pursue your dreams, by all means. At least you know what you want to do and have an aptitude for. As to education being toxic, there will be a lot of challenges, especially in public education. But if your heart is set on it, you can overcome.
Yes, I have heard that the public institution is toxic and before you get hired you need a backer or someone who will refer you. I find it similar to favoritism.

I have heard a lot about toxicities from the DepEd and the teachers are working full time with low wages.
It's the culture that must be overhauled. I think management is top-heavy so teachers are always aiming for the non-teaching, supervisory positions, which is not good for the children. And many are in the teaching profession not because they're committed 100% but for the pay. Because the reality is except for the very few schools, most private educational institutions pay even less than public schools.
They said in the private school it's not very stressful unlike in the public schools where you are given almost all the tasks.
Perhaps true, but like I previously mentioned, they also don't pay as much as public schools, or at least most of them don't.
Yes, that's the downside and I don't know which is really better. Is it in the public or in the private school?
That's why Duterte wants other countries to invest with us. Opening new businesses to create job for Filipinos. Unfortunately, some Pinoys see it bad.
Yes, it can be seen as a bad movement because our real Pinoy businessman/woman cannot advertise their products because they were covered by foreign people here.

All these are applicable to my country as well. Each year, schools produce massive Numbers of graduate to join the already unemployed numbers in the market. Here, we are adviced to get a handwork to be on a safe side because even the little scale employment is scarce
That's the sad reality we are living in. I am now studying stocks to be able to have early investments because I do not want to rely in our economic situation.
This is this the main reason why, I am so pressured and anxious. My family is expecting me to have a job right away afterI graduate, without knowing that lookinh ofra job is very hard here im the Philippines. I am sure thag if I won't be able to have a job, they will feel disppointed and worst is criticize me :(
Your parents should know that there are less job opportunities offered in our countries and kailangan pa nga ng backer eh. Ganyan kahirap dito sa bansa natin.
May point ka din naman jan beh, sa paahon ngayon eh diskarte din ang kailangan BUT iba pa din kapag nakatapos ka ng pag aaral. KAsi kahit saan ka magpunta basta may pinag aralan ka eh mabubuhay ka. And besides, yn lang ang maipapamana naming mga magulang sa mga anak at di mananakaw ng iba.
Well said ate pachuchay. Pero sa panahon ngayon, di sapat na nakapagtapos ka lang ng kolehiyo dapat may ibang diskarte ka sa buhay. Yung iba di nakapagtapos pero naging successful parin.

It's not especially when you have special talent you can use that to be a successful business owner. But when it comes in applying jobs that required certain degree it is necessary.

I have an opposite opinion with the last part in which you state that if one has skills already then it's okay not to go to college anymore. In my 1st and 2nd job, I have one colleague who is undergrad. We had somehow similar tasks but different job positions. Why? Because she's an undergraduate. Yes, she has the skills that can be on par to us but she can't be promoted. My classmates are in master's degree also for promotion and some training here and there. So for me, it's school then lots of training. From a poor family like, education lang yung pamana ng parents namin. Pero yun nga, sa panahon ngayon you can work without a degree. Nageeevolve narin kasi. Basta madiskarte lang sa buhay and hindi madaling sumuko... But I do agree with you regarding job hunting. It's hard. You have to sell yourself and claim to be the best (brain, skills, and attitude) and a potential asset of the company. As for the population, aside from teenage pregnancy, there's no family planning. Tapos ang iba naman, kung sino pa yung mahirap, yun pa ang may pinakamaraming anak. I've seen before 21 na anak, I mean hindi ba sila naaawa sa mga anak nila? And yung mga anak nila, di man lahat, yun din ang possible na patutunguhan. It's a loop. We are all in the loop of life.
I really admire those people na hindi nakapagtapos pero successful sa buhay and minsan napapaisip ako kung necessary ba talaga yung college, mamamatay lang naman tayong lahat kaya doon tayo sa diskarte na mas lamang tayo. I appreciate your well thought comment!
For me, di lahat ng may diploma ay may siguradong future na. Maraming nakapagtapos na nahihirapan parin sa pagkuha ng trabaho. It's up to us talaga kung paano natin dalhin ang buhay natin.
Agree po. Kaya di batayan yung college status mo, may iba late yung development sa buhay pero sila yung mas nagtatagumpay.
Similar problems exist in many countries. I see this as the failure of partisan and fanatical voters to exert the necessary pressure on the rulers. Change is difficult as long as they defend the incompetence and corruption of the ruler. There is always hope, but only when new generations start to take an active and effective role!

Yeah there a lot of people that finished college but didn't get the job that they worked hard to study of. Corruption and Poor management in our country is one of problems that causes it.

Yeah I hoping the same thing but even though the election still wasn't happen happening country's people is becoming more and more toxic day by day all I can see is that people fight in social media about the president they want but the presidents show no plan about this current matter in employment in our country.
Agree. I find it very immature when they throw up memes for every candidate just to mess up its name. Social media is very toxic in exposing political things and that is actually the reason why I haven't chosen who is the president to vote for.
Isa sa pinaka maling mali na nakikita ko is yung kulang ang job vacancies or pagtrattabahuan lods, example lang natin nurses at licensed teachers. Subra-subra sila pero kunti lang ang hospitals at eskwelahan sa bansa. Pero kahit dina natin sabihing walang mapagtrabahuan, kung talagang tamad yung isang tao useless lang ang diploma kaya talo ng mga skilled graduate ng tesda at construction worker yung mga degree holder.
Agree po ako, sa buhay ngayon mas madaming opportunities kung madiskarte ka. May mga nakapagtapos sa mamahalin na paaralan pero wala namang trabaho, kaya di yan yung batayan.
