Folding@home is one of the oldest and a very successful citizen science project. F@H became most powerful and most supported distributed supercomputer on the earth.
Today my computers work on several F@H tasks, including Covid-19 research project 13426. This project is to find small, inexpensive molecules that can be potential treatments from Covid-19 disease. The project is detailed at F@H webpage, with additional resources and publications.
In addition to that, this project is part of a broader open scientific collaboration of several leading research institutions, called "The Covid Moonshot".
The Covid Moonshot project includes not only donation of computer power, direct funding but also sharing expertise to develop patent-free therapeutic leads. This crowd assisted research may be complementary to research done by pharma companies.
As far as I can judge, the results can be useful not only for Covid but for many existing and newly unfolded diseases.
It is just so good that there are enough enthusiasts to install molecular simulation software, start computing and accelerating research. This opportunity was not available 20 years ago but now open to everyone by visiting link below:
