Watching the film made me understand the reason why today the Christian and Muslim people have tensions between them. Although, with the modern age we’re living where we ask for equality with every gender, race and religion we can’t help that sometimes there are still people who are racist and not open to other options other than their own. I can actually see that this kind of behaviour still exist to todays society. The film ”Raiders of Sulu” was about these muslim pirates who are very barbaric when it comes to fighting than even the Spaniards who uses guns fear them. Using their swords as weapon they fight fearlessly and attack their enemies.
These muslim pirates that I’m talking about are divided into three groups the Balangingi Samal, Illanuns and the Sultanate of Sulu. They bring terror to everyone for they are known as pirates or bandits who makes a hole in the palm of their captives and tie them all together. It was also said in the film that the pirates gathered around 300 men and outnumbered the Spaniards, they are exceptionally talented to create a ship and are even said to be an exceptional sailors.
To finish this reaction paper, I believe that everytging is just a matter of perspectives. The Muslim’s might show off as a cruel enemy but they wont sacrifice their lives for nothing. There is a reason to that, one is to claim the land that belongs to them. Spaniards claimed Zamboanga and are colonizing the Philippines. Although their ways are barbaric it’s still their ways to get back what’s ours. Spaniards are also curel in a way for using guns to kill people, colonizing a country and stripping off their freedom. My point is the film did a really good job on opening my eyes and weigh down my perspectives. Everything happens for a reason. The present is heavily influenced by the past. It is important to study history to understand why these things are happening today.
