Ever heard of the word Cynophobia ?


This refers to as the irrational, excessive , intense fear of dogs...up to the extent of developing a panic attack, at the sight of dogs whether in pictures, thinking about dogs or seeing a live dog.


Cynophobia coined from 2 greek words "kyno" meaning dog and "phobia" meaning fear. Cynophobia is classified under specific phobia,and subtype animal phobia.


Cynophobia is common among children and female gender as compared to adults and male gender.


The intense fear may manifest as the following... palpitations(feeling of heart racing), sweating, tremors, difficulty breathing, the urge to escape, faintness or dizziness, and even nausea


This phobia  is diagnose if... It.  affects the daily activity of the person, symptoms last for at least 6months, the anxiety and panic attack is not accounted for by any other cause but only from dogs, exposure to dogs provokes the anxiety response, the fear is irrational and excessive.


Treatment is usually by cognitive behavioural therapy and by drugs in some cases, and some other advance method of treatment.
