It takes a lot of guts to take on two of the best singers in pop. But 12-year-old Annie Jones seemed undaunted and ready to let it rip on Tuesday night's (Aug. 25) American's Got Talent, where she put her own sassy spin on the smash Lady Gaga/Ariana Grande single "Rain on Me," switching up the arrangement to make it her own.
Opening the track as a slowed-down piano ballad, the confident tween crooned the song's first verse with a dose of precocious soul, before the tempo picked up and a finger-snapping beat kicked in as Jones worked a stage lit up with glitchy images of a VHS tape on a loop.
With socially-distanced judges Howie Mandel, Sofia Vergara and Heidi Klum looking on -- chief adjudicator Simon Cowell was still absent following his recent bike crash -- Jones displayed poise and vocal chops well beyond her years.
