Speaking of one Thursday last monsoon. That morning I came to Sylhet and got up at the house of my friend Tofail in Jaintapur. I sleep all day and go out in the afternoon to see Guchhgram. Entering Guchhgram through Jaintahil Resort, Shubhamita saw some beautiful flowers in the bushes on the way. She is overwhelmed. He dragged me to the tree. Then he said, look how beautiful the flower petals are, as if two lips are eager to speak. He got busy taking pictures of flowers. I take a good look around. There are many similar trees on both sides of the entrance to Guchhgram. I looked far away and thought, I took a picture of the tea garden a little while ago. Here I see black clouds, black clouds in the land of tea. This is the first time I saw a black cloud outside Dhaka. I heard it is a flat land plant. I was a little surprised to see Sylhet. When I went to get the news about that night, I found out that Kalmegh is basically a tree in the hilly region.

Kalmegh is a Bengali name. Some people call kalmegh kalomegh or alui. In the Chakma language, Kalmegh is Mahatida. The Unani name is Jigarbuti. Common English names are kadhatrudhah and ritvadhah. The Sanskrit name is Kirata. Hindi name Kalpanath. The botanical name is Andrographis paniculata. The cognate name is Jastica paniculata. Family Acanthesi.

Kalmegh is a 1 meter high steep tree. They like moist and shady cool places very much. The bright green leaves are lanceolate, the branches are quadrangular. The stems are simple and inverted and the branches are multi-branched. Kalmegh tree is very bitter and nutritious. The whole plant except the roots is used as a medicinal plant. The flowers are very small in size. Black spots on light pink flowers. When the flowers bloom, it looks like a crocodile. One, two or scattered clusters of flowers bloom all over the tree. The fruit looks a lot like a capsule. Each black cloud fruit bears 10 to 12 seeds. Propagation from seed. Last monsoon flowers. At the end of flowering the tree bears fruit. It is widely known as a medicinal plant. My first meeting with Kalmegh was at the Medicine Garden of Jahangirnagar University. Later we met in the Sibili part of Baldha Bagan in old Dhaka. Then one day I met Kalmegh in the garden of Savar Public Health Center. This is how we have seen the black cloud in the National Botanical Gardens, the Medicinal Garden of Dhaka University and all the nurseries in this metropolis.

Medicinal properties

Many believed that kalmegh leaf juice was an antidote to snake bites; But various experiments have shown that belief is wrong. What if; The medicinal properties of Kalmegh have not diminished. Kaspath tested medicine for malaria fever. The juice of the leaves is incomparable in reducing diarrhea and thin stools and eliminating indigestion. Kalmegh leaf juice is equally effective as an antidote to the liver. Apart from that, worms are cured by mixing raw turmeric juice with kalmegh leaf juice. The juice of the young leaves of Kalmegh is also very useful in various skin diseases including wounds and itching. Apart from that, Kalmegh leaf juice plays an effective role in curing typhoid and its germs !

Thank you everyone.
