The most diverse group of insects has emerged through co-evolution with flowering plants.

Humans consider certain insects to be pests, and use pesticides and other methods to control them. Some insects damage crops by eating sap, leaves and fruits. A small number of parasitic species are pathogenic. Several types of insects have complex ecological roles.
