‘Basbusa’ is traditional dessert from the Middle East. This dessert first appeared in Egypt, but it is also very popular in other countries of the world. It is made with semolina batter. Orange flower water, rose water or plain syrup are used to sweeten it. It is then cut into diamond shapes. Basbusa is also called 'Sujir Cake'. Because it deals with semolina. Basbusa also has other different names, such as:

Armenia: Shamali

Greek: Samali

Turkish: Revani

So I tried to give you a method on how to make this Middle Eastern sweet easily at home, I hope everyone will like it:

Basbusa:

Materials:

To make a cake:

• Eggs (4)

Sugar (1 cup)

Suji (2 cups)

Coconut powder (1 cup)

Vanilla Essence (1 tbsp)

Baking powder (1 tsp)

• White oil (1 cup)

Sour yogurt (1/2 cup)

Flour (1/2 cup)

• Butter (2 tbsp)

To make syrup:

Water (1 cup)

Sugar (2 cups)

Lemon juice (1 tbsp)

Preparation:

First, beat the eggs, sugar and oil in a bowl with a hand beater. Then mix it well again with semolina, vanilla essence, coconut powder, yogurt, semolina, baking powder. Finally mix the flour well with a hand beater for another ten minutes. Care should be taken that there are no lumps in the mixture.

Now put butter in a baking tray and pour the prepared semolina mixture in it. Then level the mixture with a spatula. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 180 degree centigrade for 20-25 minutes.

In the meantime, you have to make syrup. Put sugar and water in the pan and put it on low heat. Stir frequently when it is seen that the water has boiled. Then when the sugar is completely melted, it should be drained with lemon juice.

When the time comes, take the cake out of the oven. When the cake is cold, you have to cut the cake to your desired shape. When it is cut, you have to pour syrup on it. Pour until the syrup is completely level with the cake.

Decoration:

Now if you want, spread cashew nuts, pesto or almonds on top and serve 'basbusa'.
