Farmers are allowed to grow cannabis
Bangkok - Thailand has proposed growing cannabis to farmers as another source of income, said today the spokeswoman of the Deputy Government, Traisuli Traisorankul.
"Everyone has the right to grow marijuana in partnership with provincial hospitals, but only for medical purposes," the government spokeswoman said, adding that those interested in growing marijuana should only seek permission from the authorities, Reuters reported.
"So far, 2,500 households, in cooperation with 251 hospitals, have grown 15,000 cannabis plants. We hope that cannabis and hemp will be the primary source of income for farmers," Traisoranul said.
Universities, municipal associations, medics and people involved in traditional medicine can also apply for a cannabis cultivation permit.
The state pharmaceutical organization announced that it will buy cannabis at a price of 1,500 dollars per kilogram, provided that it contains 12% of cannabidol.
