Teachers have different methods to improve students learning, and give tasks that can be use by the student in real world. One of the best method/strategy to assess students understanding is by using authentic assessment. Authentic assessment also known as alternative names, notable among which the following performance assessment: performance task, direct assessment and alternative assessment. But what is an authentic assessment? And what is the essence of it?
Authentic assessment is a tool to determine the combined knowledge and skills of a student. Using this tool, it will help the student to engage and apply their own knowledge and skills in performing task in real life. For example teaches students to evaluate their own works. Teachers will give instruction/lecture about the given task and demonstrate it first . After that, the student will also perform the given task by their own knowledge and understanding . And they will evaluate their own work . And by that they will learn how to apply their own knowledge and skills in performing their task either standard or substandard . Another example is, giving student a task by making short spoken poetry about pandemic. In this task they will use their own experience on how to make a meaningful literature . And also how can they express theirselves, relate and encourage other people to stay strong and believe that we can do all things through christ who strengthen us .
All in all we have learned that the importance of authentic assessment is not only beneficial for the teachers to ease their work, but also giving student insight about how they will fulfill and evaluate their own work. And student will learn how to apply it in real life dilemma and use their own understanding to be prepared facing it.
