Lelung Khumi, president of the Bangladesh Khumi Social Organization, said there was no synonym for 'rape' in the language of the Khumis, who live far away from urban civilization.

He says there is no direct synonym for rape in the Garo language, but the Garo law uses the words "sikdra" to describe someone trying to escape by force by secretly entering a house while lying down and "saldra" to refer to attempted sexual harassment.

Researchers say that those who have never had a history of rape in their lives are now being victimized.
