The matter of concern for people living nearby nuclear powetplant is the effect of radioactivity. Because of lack of knowledge, people often make up hilarious stories. Sometimes even detecting cancer patients about 100 miles away is being connected with the nuclear station. Which is absolutely lame.
If risks of radioactivity is considered, then coal and oil based powerplants even more dangerous than nuclear ones. Because fossil fuels contain various natural isotopes and by burning these fuels the radioactive materials will spread everywhere without being filtered.
On the other hand, in the nuclear stations have planned ways to recycle and filter the air and water before releasing them in the environment.
