Creating Face Structures from DNA

Couple of years ago, I read this article on nature magazine. It was written by Aftab Uz Zaman, Plant Biotechnology Lab, Dhaka University. It took me by surprise that scientists have discovered a way to detect the face pattern of a person from their DNA. I will explain in easy terms how that is possible.

A group of researchers of Pittsburgh University have been doing this research for some time. And they have said that there is hope that it could be possible.

All the features and details of human are controlled by genes. It is where all the information about us are recorded. So if we can find the genes responsible for our face shape then we will be able to draw our faces with the help of DNA.

That is what those researchers are doing. They are doing the reasearch on 2329 europian people. Their objective was to detect the genes that are responsible for the face structure. Good news is they have find 15 genes that are responsible for the shape of face.

The previous researchs regarding this field was done in a typical way. But this group of researchers have walked in a different way. They have made a database according to the sample DNA and the face structures. And they have seen light in this way.

Human nose is made of cartilage and tissues. There is no bone in our nose. So when scientists try to develop a sketch from the fossils, they face trouble to make a design of the nose. The amazing result they have got from this research is that they have found the genes responsible for the nose structure.

7 genes out of those 15 genes are responsible for the structure of nose. So it will be a lot easier to make the structure of nose now. Although it will not be perfect. It will take a lot time to find some more advanced way.

Finally, what was a imagination some years ago, is now possible. So we can obviously hope that the time is not far away when we will be able to see a technology to develop a perfect sketch from only DNA data.
