Personal Career or Business Choice Factors
Based on the DOLE survey, the shortage of qualified applicants is growing in large companies in the country, particularly in the National Capital Region. This also causes an increase in job turnover rate and the hiring of employees or pirates of workers. According to the DOLE study, absences and delays in employment and declining productivity have greatly affected the production of large companies. In addition, many college graduates who are unable to find work or are unemployed or who are able to work are underemployed. If it is not felt so far, there will be a strong pull down on our economy if the so-called mismatch of jobs that need to be filled and the skills or qualifications of Filipino workers or job mismatch continues. According to the DOLE, this job mismatch is the result of lack of adequate planning in academic or technical-vocational courses, businesses that young people will establish after Basic Education or elementary and high school.
Before looking at jobs that will be in-demand four to ten years from high school graduation, one should first study and evaluate one's own abilities, interests, values and goals. It is important to choose the right career or business to recognize one's own abilities, interests, values and aspirations. Having clear identification and consideration of them helps to have adequate preparation or planning, focus and effort to reach the desired career or business someday.
Talent and ability are natural but they need to be trained. Professor Ericsson and his group have conducted long studies of famous and successful personalities in various fields; in art, science, math, sports or sports, business and so on. His team analyzed statistics, various data and biographies about them. They also analyzed the results of several years of experimentation with experts and successful people. They discovered two important things. First, there is often not enough instinct to be skilled and successful in any field. Their success and efficiency are the result of meticulous and thorough
training. In English “Practice makes perfect”.
Second, in addition to ability or talent, it is also important that we have an interest or passion in our field. We should be happy with what we do so that we have the inspiration and motivation to go beyond or beyond our natural ability. Considering the interests or inclinations in setting a goal helps to make these goals meaningful to the person. So the goals he will choose are those he will strive to achieve. It will give him the courage to overcome the obstacles and difficulties that will be faced in achieving the goal. It will also give him the focus not to be tempted by short-term comforts or pleasures or to stray from the goal. The essence of career or business planning lies in the wise choice from a variety of career or business choices that will provide
meaning in his life. As he considers his own interests in each career or business he will recognize which of them will accomplish and enrich his skills and appreciation for the work.
Our interest in a task is based on our values. There are many interpretations of appreciation. According to Stephen (1989), they can be grouped into two:
It comes from outside the self or based on "absolute moral values" which encompasses and subject all human beings at all times wherever they are. These include definitions based on religion, those according to professional teachers and those according to ethical principles.
It comes from within or "behavioral values" that can be based on or according to the views and experiences of people or based on the collective view of the cultural group. This includes the interpretation of sociologists, psychologists and "career counselors" and some philosophers or scholars.
For psychologists, appreciation is what makes an object or idea so desirable, pleasant, wonderful or useful. These are also motives for choosing an initiative or decision (Hall, 1973). In relation to choosing a career, business or occupation the emphasis is on the basis of appreciation in decision making and goal setting.
For Abiva (1993), appreciation shapes a person's ability to choose right or wrong. It also dictates what are beautiful, great and lovely things in life. These values are the result of experience. According to Sta. Maria (2006) has different types of appreciation. It is important to mention here:
Work Values - such as work efficiency, acceptance of changes, public response, acceptance of diversity, etc.
Career Development Related Values -
such as personal development, lift, recognition, and so on
A successful person usually has certain values underlying action and decision. It is clear to him which of these values can help in achieving a more meaningful life. Because of this he acts in accordance with the higher and more helpful values among his other values. As a result, his efforts are focused on achieving his set goals.
A person who succeeds in his or her career, business or occupation usually possesses the following values: diligence, initiative, teamwork, efficiency, orderliness, patriotism and nationalism, self-reliance. Personal factors related to labor should be cultivated in order to develop oneself and serve towards a productive community and nation.
