Pahela Baishakh The first day of the Bengali year is called Pahela Baishakh. This day comes once a year. We have been celebrating this day. Come, O Boishakh, come, come, we make the day relevant by singing. The day is celebrated all over the country. On this day the people of the village prepare special food. On the day, shopkeepers decorate their shops, open halakhatas and give sweets to shoppers and buyers. People in the city celebrate the day with much more joy. They eat pantabhat and hilsa fish in the morning. They wear traditional costumes. Young men wear Punjabi, pajamas and young women wear yellow saris. This day reminds us of the rich Bengali culture and tradition.
