My magnets
Today was the first day of school. I saw my students after 2 months. It was beautiful and exciting.I received two nice magnets from Macedonia and Greece.
This made me especially happy because I am a big collector.I have magnets from Turkey, Chicago, Prague, Ohrid, Thassos, Malta, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria, Rome... I have traveled a lot, and my students also bring me things from their travels.
The name for a person who collects fridge magnets - memomagnetist. This is not an officially accepted name (like, for example, numismatist), but was a suggestion of a Russian collector created by combining the words memoriale (Latin) and magnetis (Greek). Many people find collecting fridge magnets a fun hobby because for them each magnet has its own story.
Many people find collecting fridge magnets a fun hobby because for them each magnet has its own story. There are people like Tony Lloyd from Great Britain who had to cover all the walls of his house with sheets of metal because of his collection of 5,000 souvenir magnets. This is also the largest collection of magnets in Europe.
There is another strong proposal, which is "ferrovenirist". It is a combination of the words magnet and souvenir in the Latvian language.
We hope that soon they will choose a name that all fridge magnet collectors will stand behind.
At one time, the largest confirmed collection of refrigerator magnets belonged to Louise J. Greenfarbiz of Las Vegas, Nevada.
In 1997, she was included in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest collector of fridge magnets. Her collection had 19,300 different pieces. And she didn't stop at that number, because the collection grew to almost 30,000 pieces. It didn't end there either, in 2015 it was confirmed that the collection had grown to a fantastic 45,000 pieces.
Louise Greenfarb died on December 7, 2019. Her son Bryan Greenfarb continued in his mother's footsteps. According to data from a few months ago, he has a collection of an incredible 65,000 refrigerator magnets without duplicates.
Well done to the Greenfarb family!
