Since I read crypto news on weekends, one in particular interested me, so I'm sharing it with you.
Who is to blame for the decline in the value of bitcoin - China or bad journalism?
It happened that some statements of Chinese officials coincided with the fall in the value of bitcoin. Reuters misinterpreted their views, declaring that China had reintroduced a ban on cryptocurrencies. Of course, everyone's statements were transmitted automatically by Reuters, and it even seemed that China caused a decline in the value of bitcoin, ethereum and some other currencies.
Namely, although China is an increasingly important world power, it is by no means so powerful as to bring down the value of cryptocurrencies. What happened then? The official Chinese newspaper Xinhua, Shanghai Security News, the official Chinese television CCTV, and the official WeChat website of the National Bank of China jointly announced - a reminder (!) - to all financial institutions that they are not allowed to offer savings in cryptocurrencies or use them in other financial products. It was pointed out that the ban (already introduced earlier) on registration, trade, clearing and settlement is not allowed for clients of payment and financial companies. Of course, as the Chinese media reported, and the Western media somehow forgot, there was a reminder of earlier measures in order to prevent the risk of financial speculation, and to calm the craze for cryptocurrencies. Has the Chinese government contributed to instability? Probably is. Is the cause of the fall and the accompanying hysteria. Probably not.
