Entrepreneurship or traditional employment?

Hello I’m Priscillia! Priscy for short.

I don't use social media often because for the past 6 years through my degree I’ve been a beautypreneur, and now I’ve started my post-grad job search. Being my own boss I’ve always been on the outskirts of social media, occasionally dipping my toe in the waters of “congratulations! “ and thumbs ups but never needing to take a full plunge.

Now that I’m looking for a job in Marketing, I’ve had multiple career coaching crash courses in the past month that have taught me a lot of lessons. The biggest being that it’s more difficult than I thought to translate entrepreneurship experience to the corporate environment. Every company wants 5+ years of experience, what’s hidden between the lines is entrepreneurship doesn’t really count (even though I’ve been the head of marketing, finance, product development, HR and customer service, web and graphic design and more for 6+ years 😅).

This transition from entrepreneurship to ‘traditional’ employment is not one that I read about often, because entrepreneurship is often romanticized as the land of milk and honey, but there are people like me who exist in the duality of ‘yes, and’. Yes I’m an entrepreneur and I love what I do AND I would like to work in a corporate environment because I’m passionate about telling compelling stories for all kinds of brands, not just my own. I am inspired by the thought of making people feel seen and heard and I have done this as a Beautypreneur, Brand Manager, Marketing Specialist and Podcaster.

As I work my way through the job search process, I’m sharing my musings in hopes that someone else making this transition might feel a little less alone and a little more seen. 😊
