Holy communion

I want to greet us on this bright new day that the Good Lord has made for us. It is indeed a privilege to be alive in a time like and I remain grateful to God Almighty for the life he gave me and you. My prayer for you is that today will not be a wasteful 24 hours for you, today shall bring forth goodness and blessings in your household. As you read this article, may you find peace and rest and remain knowledge filled. Amen

Our topic says "Is Holy Communion A Must For Christians?" This topic has been a bed of argument among Christians especially those in which the Holy communion isn't served in their church or denomination. Some denominations do call it "The Holy Eucharist", some do call it "The Last Supper" etc however it is generally known as The Holy Communion/Eucharist.

So What is a Holy Communion Service?

A holy communion service is a Christian service in which the bread and wine are both consecrated and shared to the congregation. Yes, that is what it means in case you couldn't define it properly moreover, we are all here to learn, so no bad vibes. Now, we all know what a holy communion service means but is it done in all denominations across the globe? NO!

Why? Is it that we do not believe in it? From my findings it's only The Catholic Church, Anglican, Methodist, Presbyterian and some few denominations that partake or conduct a holy communion service. The holy communion was done in the Bible so why don't some denominations practice it also? Are we not serving one God?

I remember doing a survey on this and one day I asked a boy of 26 years old whether holy communion is done in his church. His reply was no, not at all. I then asked Him why? He said he doesn't know and he has no idea why it isn't practiced in his church. Then I asked him if he knew about the story of the last supper in the Bible or whether he has come across the story at all?

He said he knows the story of the last supper so well. He even told me the story complete. I was marvelled, he knew it so well but he couldn't explain why it wasn't practiced in his church. Three days later, I asked another guy, I think he was around 18 years of age (though I never asked him his age, just guessing). His guy said they don't celebrate the holy communion in his church and so he doesn't believe in the last supper. What??? I was madd!

I had to make him to calm down and then explained it to him. In short, the question should be, what is the significance of the last supper? When Jesus consecrated the bread and wine. He said we should do this in remembrance of Him.

Holy communion

Mathew 6:26-28, tells us that while they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

We can see from the above passage that even the wine(blood) signifies also the forgiveness of sins. Hence, as Christians, we mustn't ignore this. Sin which I also call Satan Identification Number is a barrier for us to make heaven at last and we must overcome it. The holy communion reminds us of all the things that Jesus did for us. He was crucified, he died and resurrected. Henceforth, the holy communion reminds us of the eternal life we share in Christ.

In John 6: 54-56, we learnt that if we partake in the flesh and blood (holy communion) of Christ, then we abide in Christ and He also abides in us. But before we can partake of this, we must be born again, we must repent of all our sins and give our life totally to God. Hence, we must renounce evil and the devil and have a newness of life in Christ our Lord. In John 5:53-54, we can deduct that unless we eat the flesh of the Son of God and drink His Blood, then we have no life in us.

What does this passage tells you? It means that we are lifeless if we don't partake in eating flesh of the Son of God and drinking His blood, then we are lifeless or in other words, the life of Christ is not in us. Hence the holy communion is a symbol to bring all mankind into God's embrace. We should remember that Christ is One body and we are ONE as Christians.

I hope we learnt something new and good from this. Remain blessed as you meditate on this. God bless you abundantly and you partake in the eating of His flesh and drinking of His blood. Amen.
