Deaths from Covid fall to lowest since end of May

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported 17 Covid-19 deaths across the country in 24 hours till 8:00am yesterday, the lowest in the last four and half months.

Earlier on May 28, 15 patients reportedly died of the virus infection.

The DGHS reported the first Covid-19 death on March 18, the 11th day of the first three cases were reported on March 8 in the country.

With the latest deaths, the total number of casualties due to the highly infectious virus rose to 5,477, according to a press release from the DGHS.

The death rate now is 1.46 percent against all confirmed cases in the country.

In the same 24 hours yesterday, a total of 1,278 new infections were recorded, taking the total number of people infected to 375,870, read the press release.

Against 11,256 tests in 109 Covid-19 testing laboratories yesterday, the positivity rate was 11.35 percent. The overall positivity rate stands at 18.33 percent.

Considering the total number of confirmed cases, Bangladesh is currently on the 16th position in the list of worst affected countries in the world.
