Do you know why we celebrate manila day celebrations on this day?
On this day on June 24, 1571 Manila was designated as the capital of Spanish colony in the Philippines. The proclamation to place after the Spanish leadership of Miguel Lopez de Legazpi defeated the locals of manila and Macabebe under the leadership of Rajah Sulayman in the so-called battle of bangkusay.
In 1958 the current mayor of Manila, Arsenio Lacson, declared June 24 as the foundation day of manila but in 1963 it was replaced by the president of mayor Antonio Villegas made it "Manila Day".
