Communication is thr bedrock of any society. Man had used communication as a tool for community development. Ancient people communicated by oral methods, gun shooting and other mundane methods. The development of modern technology in the 20th century had brought about tremendous advancement in communication methods. As at today,the internet is one of the Wonders of modern technological developments. Whatever information you want at anytime,you can get it from the comfort of your house with a piece of computer and the internet.
Internet
The internet is the linking of computers in international network for the purpose of communication. The linking can be wire or wireless. It is said to be wired when the computers are connected to each other through a network of cables. On the other hand,it can be a wireless communication when device such as the modern microwave satellite,are used for the communication. In order to facilitate communication and exchange of information,the internet has a set of rules that guide it's operation which is called, Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol.
Two close versions of the internet are intranet and extranet. These two however,use Local Area Network and Metropolitan Area Network respectively for communication and transfer of information.
Intranet
This is a private network communication facility that is peculiar to individual organizations. The intranet used the same transmission control protocol as internet but is limited in operations to the Local Area Network of the organization.
Extranet
The extranet works the same way as the internet, using the transmission control protocol. The extranet goes beyond the intranet in that,the organization may allow certain individuals or organizations to have access to their information base. In other words,where an organization's network of communication is opened to outsiders with restricted access,that network is an extranet.
World Wide Web(www)
This is the collection of pages of information on different topics to,linked together to form a global web of information on the internet . Documents,images, resources, symbols,and videos are logically interconnected, using the hyperlinks with a web address called Uniform Resource Locator (URL). URL allows providers and clients to locate an address web server that stores the desired information.
Internet Search Engines
The internet search engine is the tool that allows a person to find specific documents through a keyword search. Search engines are also known as web crawlers and web spiders. Search engines are organized like database, allowing you to search through them by entering keywords or phrases. Data is maintained by special programs called agents, spiders or bats. They automatically search for new information bon the web and update the databases.

Uses of internet search engines
Generally, people use search engines for at least one of these four things:

People use the search engines for research purposes. They look for the answers to questions or they look for data with which to make a decision. They also search on certain sites for specific purposes. For instance,a student who wants to write an essay can do research on how to write it.
Shopping
Some people use search engines to order for goods and services. Examples,some online companies such as konga,kunis,and kaymu. On these sites, people search for products they want and place their orders through the internet.
Entertainment
The internet is a vast, addictive and reliable resources for people to spend time on. A lot of people just sit in front of their computer, using search engines to entertain themselves. They keep moving from site to site. They look up things like videos, movie trailers,games and events in other social network sites.
Download of information or other materials
A download is the transferring of information or data form the internet to the computer or a device like flash drive, compact disk, digital versatile disk. Often, whether it is research, shopping or entertainment,some of the stuff found in the internet through search might end up being downloaded into the individual's computer storage.
How to use Google search Engines to search the internet
Most search engines operate in the same way. For this purpose, Google is used as an example. First you will need to open a web browser,for example, internet, Explorer, Google chrome not Mosiac. Enter search engine address--www.google.com on the address bar.
To conduct search:
Point and click the mouse in the search textbox.
Type in the textbox,the words or thr phrase you would like to search for.
Then, point and click the mouse on the Google search button below the search textbox
A list of sites that have information on the search items will appear.
Every phrase I'm blue with an underline may be clicked non so as to visit that particular site. These are hyperlinks to websites. The websites deemed most fit for the search are found near the top of the list. There are also additional sites called paid sponsors, found at the top shaded and to the right not the screen that you may visit if you wish.
