I still vaguely remember the first time I came to know about 'The Dark Knight'. It was through an article in a Tamil weekly magazine(Ananda Vikatan). I was surprised to read a centre page article on a Hollywood movie. Even more surprising was the fact it was for a Superhero movie.
That is when I knew this movie is a game-changer/trendsetter! Because Superhero movies till that point were considered as 'Kids' movies, and TDK changed it all. It made Superhero movies mainstream, and general audience/casual moviegoers started looking out for Superhero movies.
Immediately after reading the article, I felt the urge to watch it ASAP. But I hadn't watched its predecessor, 'Batman Begins'. I had heard about it through north Indian English news channels. And knew it was directed by 'Christopher Nolan', who was the director of 'Momento'.
Finally watched 'Batman Begins' and was fascinated by it! The fresh take on Batman, whom I have seen only in cartoons and video games until that point, made me realize it is something special. I also had the thought, how is 'The Dark Knight' going to top this...!?
Then I saw 'The Dark Knight' and was blown away by it! It was something else. Above all the Superhero movies I have seen until then(and till now too...). It fascinates me to date. Every time I re-watch it, my perspective of the movie evolves because I find something new. This is the reason why it is one of the most re-watched movies on my list. And the more I re-watch, the more it becomes close to my heart!
It laid the foundation for me to become a Superhero genre fan, Batman fan, and eventually a DC fan!
No matter how many better Superhero movies, or DC movies, or Batman movies may come(nothing much so far...), 'The Dark Knight' will always hold a special place in my list and heart! Even after 13 years and the years to come...
