Why couldn't I find anyone else to go with me - why do I have to face this all alone. Being over 30 and still keen on Carnival rides, often means that to do what you want, you're gonna have to do it alone. Oh well, might as well make the most of it.
Ahhh, I still love the sights, sounds and smells of these places. Various dance tracks play into the night air from the array of rides that surround me. The smell of burger patties grilling in the distance and the luring glow from rides and stalls - I've always felt right at home at any one of these things. Pity I have noone here with me to share it with. Even if I had a group of friends, they probably wouldn't share the childlike wonder that I still have. They would probably drag me out into the city where I'd end up blowing 300 bucks on booze, only to wake up the next morning, wondering exactly what I did and where my money has gone. No.. tonight, its just me, a Carnival and the $100 worth of ride cupons that I've just purchased. Should be a good night out... right?
Maybe I'll start with something a little tame before heading onto my usual, hi-octante thrill rides. Nothing quite like taking a spin in the old UFO.. get it.. cause it spins.... never mind. I patiently wait outside until the ride comes to a complete stop. The door slowly swings open and.. nobody gets off. That's weird! Why was it running with nobody on it? Why am I the only person waiting in line? Why is that Alien giving me such a horrible death stare..? Oh wait.. its just a mask! The ride attendant in the Alien csotume, tilts their head sideways in annoyance as they snatch my tickets from my hand. Geez.. what's the rush? The nerve of some people.
I step alone into the wide open interior of the UFO. It looks even bigger when riding solo. I have no trouble at all finding a space along the slanted walls. At the center of the ride sits another attendant, also wearing a rediculous Alien costume. They must have a sale on down at the reject shop or something - those things look cheap as. Soon after positioning myself comfortably against the wall, the door closes and the ride begins to turn. As the ride increases in speed, the attendant starts to play heavy metal music and changes the lights to a slow flicker. No matter how many times I go on this thing, it never gets old. The ride spins faster and faster - catching up with the velocity, the sliding wall to the rear of me ascends from the floor. My body is pinned to the wall and it becomes difficult to move. I Love this feeling!
The ride goes on for a few more minutes... hey wait.. minutes on a ride? These thing are usually over by now. The excitement of being held against a wall against my will quickly turns to a fear of being unable to. I soon realize that as well as not being able to wriggle around as normal on these things, I'm now unable to move at all. How fast is this thing going anyhow? Suddenly, the lights begin to flicker rapidly as if they had been set to strobe. The music also changes.. it sounds like death metal.. but it's playing backwards and sounds more Satanic than before. My attention is drawn to the attendant who appears to be slumped over in his control compartment at the center of the ride.
"HEY.... WHAT THE ...?" I try shouting at the person in the cheap Alien suit, but there is no response. Without warning, the ride speeds up once more. This time, my body can't take the pressure.. I pass out.
I wake to the sounds of shrieking laughter. It isn't too long before I am fully aware that I have vomited on myself - smells disgusting.. but thats not all I can smell. As I look out over the expanse of the rides interior, I can't help but notice that walls have now been smeared with a thick layer of what could best be described as spew and fecal matter. Gross! I also noticed that the cheap looking Alien at the controls of the ride has been replaced by... something not of this world. The dark, spindly looking creature sits at the controls, staring at me through two glowing red slits in its face. It tilted its head and laughed at me again. Although it didn't appear to be able to speak, it had a look on its face that could be understood in any language,
Then, the unthinkable happened. Despite the ride spinning at an incredible speed, the Alien life form pulled itself to its feet and in a move that defies all logic and gravity, it starts to walk accross the floor in my direction. This thing is definitely not human! The hidious backwards music continues to play and the lights keep on strobbing, making the creatures slow advance on me, all the more terrifying. It wasn't too long before he was standing over my paralized body. I layed there helpless as he lifted a huge, shimmering claw into the air, ready to strike. The claw came hurtling down, tearing through my flesh, shattering its way through my ribcage. The last thing I can remember seeing is my heart beating its final beat as it is bursts between the Aliens powerful claw.
