Seven Days (Part 5)

God rested the seventh day. No one knows why someone like Him would need rest. He is an eternal being that could do everything he ever wanted, but he decided to rest on the seventh day. Some argue that he did it so He may see and watch what he created. Some argue that even He needs rest once in a while. But one thing was for sure, we, the small beings, the ants; the insignificant ones need rest, and sometimes resting would take forever.

“She’s not giving up son. She’s just resting. She had fought so hard for the longest time that she has to rest. God created the universe in seven days. She created hers throughout her entire life time” Kite’s father said to him, trying to comfort him away from the pain. But nothing could ever comfort him from the pain, because it was a pain that he will carry on forever. No one could cleanse the memories away from him; no one could ever purify them.

His dad was in their bathtub in a house where no one ever lived. He held Kite’s tear-covered face telling him words that he could not remember, but it he was sure that it was words his father had said before. He could feel the exact emotions his father was feeling, he felt as if he was living his father’s life. Then with his father’s final blessing, he set out to the world and walked towards the sea.

Everyone needs rest and now Kite is in the middle of the sea. No more land, no more people, just him and whatever’s remaining of his world. He then took a deep breath. He realized then that he was tired. He had then realized that his father and mother were right. Everyone needs to rest and sometimes resting needs to be forever.

He closed his eyes and let the world consume him, letting him remember that the seventh day was also the end of God’s clause.

It’s true that oblivion shapes us all, that dying once and coming back alive lets you view life in a new perspective, that escaping the clutches and grasps of the nether realm lets you want to live your life once again. But it wasn’t the same for Kite, it wasn’t life changing, it was only sobering. He didn’t feel anger, he didn’t feel sad, he was just glad that his memories were back in their right places.

“How did you find me then?” He asked.

“I saw you walking towards the sea.” She replied and looked away from him. “I ran out once I saw him in the bathtub. You were the first person that came into my head as I called 911. I called out for you but you were already too far out.”

He looked at her suspiciously and he realized that she never really told him who she was.

“Just who the fuck are you exactly?” he said while moving away from her.

She still avoided his gaze but gave out a tired smile.

“There are memories that you remember and there are memories that you forget. They happen either by choice or by accident, but I could never tell with you. I could never tell if you chose to forget aboutw me.” She looked at him straight in his eyes. He then knew who she was. She had been by his side his entire life. She had been with his family longer than he had. Strangest thing about life is that sometimes the most important people in our lives are the ones we forget.

“I’m your sister. Skye.”

He can’t remember. She can’t forget.

She was the foundation on whichtheir family was built. She kept them all together through the storm, through mud and water, through thick and thin. But even sometimes pure strength can’t protect anyone from the storm, because sometimes there needs to be faith.

No one should carry on with a past like hers. A brother with depression, a father obsessed with faith, a mother so blinded by the beauty of a world that she cannot see the cracks between them. Alongside that was her personal life, filled with empty promises that were broken before they were even said, filled with regrets that formed before the mistakes were even made. No one deserves to live a life like hers and yet she did because she knew that someone has to be there, someone has to bring them through the undying storm and into the monsoon on the other side. She knew that God couldn’t do it, she knew that God was too busy listening to someone else, so she chose to do it herself, to find and create faith within herself.
