The knock had subsided and he had thought that he was alone, but then the door’s handle twisted and then it opened forth. He turned away from the window and towards the door. He saw a woman with crimson red hair and hazel brown eyes, she was carrying a bundle of flowers in her hands and an alluring smile on her face. He did not recognize the woman, but she said hello as if she had known him for quite some time. He looked at her questioningly as she walks towards him. She placed the flowers into the empty vase on top of the table right next to his bed.

“Hello.” She greeted once again her smile not fading. He can’t tell who she was or where he met her. All he could do was gaze at her silently. “It’s a beautiful day today, isn’t it?” She said and gestured towards the window. It was a clear day with sapphire-blue skies and the sunshine giving light to the greeneries and sceneries outside only complimented the beauty of it all. But he didn’t look outside. He stared into her fiery hair and into her eyes. There was a glimmering light in her eyes, a light that he had once seen, similar to his mother’s eyes on her deathbed, filled with hope towards a future that will never come.

“You should smile more.” She said and touched his cheek. He let her. A strange woman, a stranger world.

“Who are you?” His voice was crooked, he was dehydrated and it was clear that the woman knew that. She grabbed a cup of water and let him drink it.

“I’m one of your friends. I lived near your house. I’m the reason why you’re here.” She pulled the cup away. He continued to stare at her.

I’m the reason why you’re here.

What she said echoed in his mind. If she hadn’t called 911 he could’ve been away from this world and into the ethereal plane, hopefully with his dearest mother. If she hadn’t snooped in, then he wouldn’t be in a hospital bed waiting for time to pass by, waiting for his next chance.

She turned the television on. Bugs Bunny was on the screen.

“We used to watch a lot of cartoons when we were kids.” She said.

“I’m sorry, I really don’t recall who you are.” He replied.

“Doctor said that you’ve forgotten a lot of things, including your name.”

He thought about it for a second. She was right. He couldn’t remember anything. She smiled at him.

“Acute dissociative amnesia.”

“I don’t understand. I know how I’m here, but I can’t recall a lot of things. . .” He replied, almost in despair. It's like he never lived his life at all. His memories were so bitterly far away from him. It’s like he never existed.

“Don’t worry. I’ll help you remember.” She said and her glimmering smile was back.

He was in the middle of the sea, it was the first day of creation and there was light, there was a shimmering hope from the darkness that engulfed his past. It was almost like he had a clean slate.

He stared towards the sky, similar color to the water that surrounded him, even if it was winter, there was still warm sunshine hitting his face. As he floats he closes his eyes and remembers the first time he was on a plane. He remembered his mother holding his hand because he was too scared. The plane was rumbling and it was moving fast, he was scared but his mother’s presence made him feel safe.

“Don’t worry child, it’s one of man’s greatest fears to fly, but it is also one of his greatest dreams. God never designed us to fly and yet fly we did.”

After the plane reached the skies up above, he looked towards the window. They were flying up above the sea. He stared into the horizon, into that invisible line that separates the sky and sea and realizing how endless the world could be.
